If you're new to writing this sort of thing, most people like to go with a Centcom File format.
One morning, you wake up to discover that you have transformed into the Headcoder of TGstation. As you grapple with this unexpected change, delve into the challenges of game development, debugging, community management, and extreme internet toxicity. Explore how your transformation affects your relationships, passion for programming, and understanding of your own identity.
Its a normal day, youve pulled yourself off your faux-leather couch and driven yourself to the local gas station in your 2003 Volkswagen Beetle. You escape the damp confines of your car seat, the door releasing with a slight hisss .
You put on your shades, as your gamer cove does not have natural light, and this is a truly terrible amount of UV rays for a person of your type. As you clamour for the shopping carts, thrusting your hands into the deep pockets of your pants for any spare change to unshackle...
Hey forumites. I'm planning on running a tabletop game set in SS13 for some friends of mine. While I could just write all this on my own, I thought it would be a fun activity to invite you guys to make up some characters that would populate the station. They can be normal, quirky, or even slightly insane- if it works it works! Just keep in mind that most of these characters will be in the background- most NPCs shouldn't be crazy enough to steal the show whenever they enter the room.
By the power invested upon this grail so provided by the corporate conglomerate responsible for the moderation of the non-denominational Nanotrasen-Approved Religion, I greet you.
May you find peace, children. Now is your time to repent, confess, question, or pray; should you wish to pass along gracefully into the afterlife.
Say I have two oranges. They look exceptionally tasty, but you don’t know this for sure as you can only see them. I’m holding them both in one hand and we are standing in a line at the grocery store. In your grocery cart, amongst many groceries, you have a clear, plastic bag filled with several oranges. They are small and feel a little mushy. You aren’t certain they’ll taste very good, but they were all you could find. You notice that I look visibly agitated (frowning, hand on my head, staring intently at...
Roleplaying isn't (or at least it shouldn't be) having a polite conversation with someone. What happened to paranoia? Are people not comfortable hating or disliking someone in character but not out of character?
People don't want to offend others, people don't want to make people dislike them OCC. Whenever one person is trying to kill another person they usually try to be funny to show that out of character they are not serious and don't dislike you. This sucks for immersion. The MRP rules certainly aren't...
I am Dorkus. Is this name impossible to play with? I have encountered many names that are vaguely similar to Pleez Notbaneme or Songuliuouse Inengineereing or Fury Categirl on Manuel, but I get targeted for Dorkus Hore . Anyone vibe with the Hore? Please voice support or resentment against the Hore. If this name is unacceptable, why? Why are other vaguely meta or memey names acceptable? Is it the humor or the situation? I feel like Dorkus was a good punching bag that people enjoyed teasing IC. Dorkus Hore...
Give your reasons for why a high-tech science station over 500 years in the future still uses:
Wood pulp-based paper (We don't have holographic reading devices and whatnot? Who still has filing cabinets in the year 2557?)
Clunky PDAs straight out of the 1990s
Syringes (especially since actual hyposprays are probably going to come out in the next decade or two)
Non-replicated food (They can't make this taste good yet?)
Unsynthesized meat (Why waste energy on raising animals at all?)
Invasive surgeries...

While I know a whole lot of people on Manuel don't know or haven't heard of EXOS, I made this thread just if you are curious. The point of this is too have a laugh and experiment with the waters a bit ( and the water is also flammable ).

Man, Gay Johnson is the worst. I was doing my job on this god forsaken space station. Cleaning the floors like the good jannie I am, and low and behold. Here comes Gay Johnson, dragging a dead clown, spilling blood and banana lube all down the hall.
Regardless of role or job you'r IC character has one reasonable skill that's within some realm of believability. What is yers?
Main Skill
Ninjaku Grip Terror Style!
~
Effect: Can't be disarmed using a double bladed energy sword while the blade is in it's on state. This skill does not apply to single or katana energy swords.
~
Sub Skill
Class 'G' Wizard Hunter License
~
Effect: Fights better against wizards with shotguns (quicker reload), but not with any other weapon (much slower recharge/reload)
I was bored and had a goofy thought. Imagine that Space Station 13 was adapted into a cartoon. You have your space station, your cast of wacky characters, and plots that escalated and wrapped up within 20 minutes. Think about it, you'd have your everyman main character- maybe a cargo techie or a scientist. You have your wacky side characters: your Italian cannibal chef, your slippery clown, and your comically dictatorial HoS. You have your running jokes, like the assistants that somehow manage to transform...
Captain is completely delusional and engaging in violent medieval LARP with the crew while ruling the “Headlands.” All crew is engaging in the Game of Thrones RPfest instead of working. Employee productivity is down 200% and im pretty sure people are being beheaded in the halls. Any calls to civility or doing work that matters is met with extreme hostility.
* Sec is totally unresponsive and just killing people. Refuses to talk about it. When I tried to talk to them a chemist ran in, tried to break a door...
You wake up after blacking out in a clown-only bar, then you see a sec officer enter the bar and start shooting people with disablers and beating clowns with a stun baton. What do you do?
It's a normal day at work. You hear a call over Common. I'm doing a mass expedition. Cargo, order some EVA suits. The ones in storage won't last. It's Addust Johnson's voice, avid expeditioner and owner of a thousand naval vessels. You walk to EVA storage and see him in his dusty EVA suit, briefing a group of your colleagues on the plan.
Alright. There's another lost vessel in this sector, and our orbit has brought us close to an inactive fleet of Syndicate vessels, mostly Syndicate-owned minicruisers. My...
I just wanted to invite you out for coffee today because I've really enjoyed your company lately, and it means a lot to me that you agreed to meet me here. Don't worry about the tab, haha, it's my treat, even those little cookies you like. Anyway, I was wondering, since things have been going well, if maybe you'd like to start seeing each other more? Like, in an exclusive sense?
You are a detective, aboard the research station known as space station 13. You got the opportunity to be a part of the crew when nanotrassen went to your college's career fair. after the hiring manager told you about an opening for space station 13 for a detective, it seemed to be a good choice; and since you had no interest in being a forensics expert for the space police, it seemed that this was the natural way to go after college.
The shift has been relatively quiet. Nobody's tried to break into...
Your head hurts.
This doesn't seem right. You try and remember what you were doing last but all that does is make the pounding headache throb.
You take stock of your surroundings.
You seem to remember being on the metastation brand station, although the lights are currently dimmed to the emergency red, so you're not sure where the power is.
You're wearing a standard black jumpsuit, with a full toolbelt including multitool around your waist.
The door to the dorm is open.
Are you working on a campaign? Are you a player in a campaign? Do you play D&D? What edition? A different RPG? A homebrew? Boardgames? Cardgames? Wargames? Do share.
I recently finished playing the 5E Curse of Strahd campaign. Myself and a friend of mine played two halves of an Ettin adapted into a player race; we were pretty weak mechanically compared to the other characters, but we had many uses and definitely had the best story about us. I'm in the early stages of planning the next character, and I'm...
People are simply too nice .
This is an issue that I've noticed on Manuel that I think is worth discussing. While, the /tg/station setting is fairly malleable, the following facts are more or less set in stone.
1. Nanotrasen is an incompetent megacorporation that has little regard for employee welfare.
2. Aliens are targets of racism by a human majority, are treated like second-class citizens, and are forbidden from entering positions of power.
3. The station is a nonsensical, metal death trap...
For me this station gets blown up to hell and back nearly every round, nukies, plasma flood, cult, changelings, lexia black. Your survival chance is honestly pretty small.
If I wanna survive this death trap here's what I'd do.
1. Hop in as an assistant
2. Go to HOP and try to get EVA access so you can explore space.
3. LEAVE THE Z-LEVEL UNTIL THE SHUTTLE IS CALLED.
If HOP is being a meanie, then try to get cargo tech from him. If you succeed, grind...
Tl;Dr: Based loosely on SS13. You and a motley crew of others are hired by some literal who company outsourced by NT to work on a planet colony / research expedition. Shit goes bad, and you're effectively lost in space. Makes a couple important exertions on supermatter/ftl lore and how it works. Bit of time-travel shit. Focus on X-Com style base-building, rationing, and survival. Not combat focused, but plenty of monsters a-la-forgotten-beast-dwarf-fortress style. (As in each one is a unique challenge...
So I wanted to make this into a series of books but as far as I know I can't with the proper typeface anymore (the round ended too soon and there's no way to write with the tape recorder font) so I thought I'd put it here instead for the people involved or anyone who may want to read it. It's a series of transcripts from a round on Manuel covering the trial of Larry Johnson. It's fun.
What's up with all those Nanotrasen lizards pretending to have human hair? Lizard's shouldn't have hair.
Stop trying to adhere to anthropocentric beauty standards. Embrace true scaly beauty. Fuck those furry-headed smoothskins (figuratively and literally) .
Please be advised that due to budget cuts, felinid crewmembers will no longer be issued tails. If you cannot provide a receipt or proof of purchase showing that your tail was privately purchased to your station's purchasing department, you will be required to return it by September 10th. A reference number will be provided upon receipt of tail, to allow priority reclaiming of previously assigned specimen in the event of redistribution. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact your local...
tldr: Play a character until it dies or is taken through other means, then make a new one and go on like that etc. Keep track and shit for an interesting story
Overview
Basically starting dec 1 I'm gonna start playing like this, idk for how long. I really was just gonna do it as a fun little mini project for myself, but I decided it'd be interesting if other people were involved so that a story of sorts could be crafted. I'll be keeping track on a word doc of my own, if you wanna join you gotta keep...
I'm addicted to drinking unbelievably deadly liquid thermite (yeeeeeeaaahhhh)
In a brief moment of lucidity I went to the chemist and told them Do not, under any circumstances, make me more thermite
I was back there half an hour later, wearing an italian moustache, and I said Hello gentlemen, I am Mauser McLauligan, a man you have never met before. Give me 10,000u of thermite directly into my mouth.
I enjoy roleplaying in SS13, and I believe that the tight mix of fast paced action and conflict with slower moments of downtime and peace make for a really unique experience that few other games can offer. However, while roleplaying as a badass fighting their way through a revolution is seriously fun and engaging, /tg/station has always been a little weaker when it comes to long, slower stretches of time where characters might talk about their own history and experiences. I think part of this...
All excerpts are based on genuine events of a shift and the extents that I've punished people outside of standard procedures.
Parts are dramatacised for your entertainment. When describing them to non SS13 individuals, the stories make for laugh a minute ridiculousness.
Don't take this too seriously.
This is a dark interpretation of psychological torture and the effects of the Stanford prison experiment and the ease of human evil and the possibility to be carried away.
You are sitting in a little spacecraft. You look out the window. A large space station is in front of your ship. You hear a voice coming from some speakers:

Welcome. This is a Choose-your-own-Adventure style text based role playing game....
If you aren't a sybil player (or even if you are but you weren't online) you probably haven't been around to see the events I've been running. It all started with a simple payday/heist operatives event that kind of grew into more of a storyline based thing. I'm posting this here as a recap so as the story continues I can link people who are interested in the lore behind the events. Big thanks to Chromaisindeedtaken for doing a bunch of creative writing and making my words look more better.
It's been over 5 hours since the server, as I have learned it's called, went down. I can almost remember it like it was yesterminute. The horrors as those words flashed by, connection to server lost, reconnecting in 10 seconds , looking around, at my world, from the outside, from this strange computer in front of me.
Where am i, what am i, is this the clowns doing?
I wondered as I attempted to ascertain this strange new world I found myself thrust into. I learned about rent, I learned...
You wake up and try to log into SS13 one day. Only to find something written in blood red. You may join any faction of your choice and what you wish shall become a reality.. You then get a list of the optional factions. 1. Spider Clan. 2. Syndicate(...) 3. Blood Cult 4.Clock Cult. 5. Lovecraftian Nightmare(...) 6. Wizard Federation
These options all have empty boxes by them with the ability to checkmark, and a button to submit. Like one of those google forms. You can only check one. What do you do?
A recent conversation with armhulen a few days ago reminded me that I used to write for pleasure and that I had stopped for reasons i cannot quite recall. So, in order to rectify this, I have decided to take up writing some short stories of SS13 in a typically serious tone and posting them here because the hard part about writing is other people reading it. For now: I present you two short stories, told from the perspective of two different antagonists.
I was asked to DM Paranoia irl.
I never played Paranoia, I never heard about it, I only just now started reading Paranoia XP edition.
I don't have any other materials.
The DMing is to take place in two days, we'll have about 3-4 hours.
Any tips or pointers or whatever?
