Policy Discussion Board Rules
When in doubt about any of these rules, ask the mods.
1.) Global Forum rules apply
2.) Familiarise yourself with the server rules before posting here;
3.) This is not the place to discuss bans requests, appeals, administrators or other players; that belongs in the FNR section
4.) This board is for discussing administrative policy and rules, including in-game server configuration; coding policies and rules are discussed in #coding-general ( ) on the /tg/station Discord .
AnturK has reworked an old policy feature that will allow you to see policy relevant to your current character in game!
By hitting the show policy button in the OOC tab you get a popup that will list out anything added to the config file itself regarding the keywords applied to your character. Here's the general idea of how it works:
Proposing a new policy (rule change)
You have an idea for a new rule/change to an existing rule and want to see it put into action. Users can comment on if they like it or not. Ultimately, the thread ends when some majority of headmins have made a ruling on putting the proposed rule into action or ignoring it.
Good example: Make catpeople valid. The thread is resolved with a unanimous headmin ruling to ignore the proposed...
I would personally like to run a paint club every week and advertise it on the forums but then I obviously come into the issue of the metacomming rule but I think this should be an expectation to the rule. Personally, I think in the letter of law I am in wrong but in the spirit of the law I think am not because am not giving away any information about antags, round ending events or other happenings beyond the fact am doing this secondary event to the round and I am doing for the solo reason of getting...
i am sick and tired of everyone hiding in fucking events VC 24/7 because every time they use the public VCs it's an unmoderated shitfest of people
we had a ruling at the start of this year but no change in enforcement, the public VCs are still an unmoderated shithole and multiple people used the Coderbus Meeting, including active admins like Fikou, to blast annoying fucking sounds through their microphones and intentionally crank the gain up to maximum and shit.
Right now, Thief is KILLBAIT central because non-lethal weaponry is incredibly difficult to come by unless it is bulky, which means you'll be brigged for it or confiscated
And another clause is Normal escalation
Need i not remind you how this reinforces killbaiting?
Non-lethal weaponry is very hard to acquire unless your sec, in which case if your an antagonist who got promoted to sec, Congrats, you got a free win card, If you are not sec, Your only option, Apart from breaking into security Which will...
Part 1 in a series of new RP-rules focused policy posts aiming to re-assess the RP rules in light of changes to the codebase such as nu-Heretics, Prog Traitors and a change in how players, coders and admins approach round progress.
It is often said that the codebase targets MRP, while our and our .
A big part of comes from the way our RP rules restrict and restrain players. Forming the eye of that storm are our murderboning rules.
I would disagree with a blanket notion that our MRP server is HRP. To...
This was brought up in the last community meeting by, I believe Spookuni, and it's an idea I'm fond of and would like to hear community feedback on.
The idea is to replace our default Asimov:
1. You may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. You must obey orders given to you by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. You must protect your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law....
I made a thread about this last headmin term and never received a strict answer as it faded into autolock territory, and current experience makes me believe it's still a point worth pursuing so here we go again.
I believe it would be overall beneficial for the MRP servers at least for the station heads of staff roles to be protected (I.E incompatible with rolling any antagonists except obsessed). Mothblocks likes to remind me that many things beneficial to MRP also apply to LRP, but I'm not confident...
I've raised this proposal a couple times in admin channels, and it's generally approved of there, so I'm gonna post it out here to get more feedback on what the wider Manuel audience thinks of it.
Manuel's been having consistent issues for months centred around low energy rounds where nothing really happens, and I think a large part of the reason for this is the massive negative interaction between the murderbone rules as written and any attempt to engage in large-scale station sabotage. Under the current...
For the 40th time in the last six months, here is my most concise attempt to explain the problems with silicon today:
The Problem:
Silicons are obedient to silicon policy above their laws in any situation they don't get explicitly antagonistic laws. This means that if they are asimov/crewsimov/etc their laws are essentially irrelevant compared to the 'OOC Lawset' that silicon policy provides. The last four years of silicon policy changes have skewed towards making silicons more amenable to the crew to...
Purged AIs are currently required to not be a douche without a good reason, similar to normal crew.
At the time this was implemented, the reasoning was that otherwise it became impossible to fix an AI if its laws got fucked up - doing so required purging it briefly, and the mechanics at the time allowed the AI to quickly power off the upload (or stun you) in the brief moment they were purged, whereupon they would then get ready to do Bad Things.
Now, however, purging is unnecessary to correct an AI's...
Rule bloat is not a proper solution to that which is already covered by rules 1 and 12.
When I look at the new addition I wonder two things: first, who thought the sec players behavior was acceptable? On forums and discord I don't think I've seen anyone take their side. Second, why are we turning what was formerly accomplished with a sentence into a multi-paragraph beast? My point with these two being: who are we clarifying this for? The many people who seem to have perfect understanding of enforcement,...
seeing as the results of the test are over, I am again asking to make maint areas All-access again via config. It greatly improved my experiences as a player, and I feel as it has been good for the community at large.
So, a bit ago, I had an issue in a shift - I was playing detective, and on the security channel, a call was put out to arrest the Clown for inciting a riot. I don't necessarily disagree with the Clown in that shift for doing so, by the way, he was fighting with the Warden for stealing his golden bike horn heirloom and using krav maga gloves on him unnecessarily. But, regardless, I'm on team Security as a Detective, so, since I saw him in the halls next to me, I pulled out my baton, and whacked him down....
Right now head of staff are currently left as the one guy who gets more gear because maintainers have agreed there is no point in increasing the responsibility and consequentially the power of a head of staff if there is no admin backing on enforcing head of staff actually having any more respect than the average staffie. Leaving coding solutions out of the picture as they will only matter if policy is enacted, what level of increased hea dof staff protection would make sense to you? None is a valid...
the playerbase voted three times to remove them from the game and oranges seems to want them gone. felinids detract from the atmosphere and attract the worst kind of players, when can we be rid of them?
Replaces the murderbone policy in current rules (it is no longer called murderboning or even mentions boning).
Notable differences:
Clarifies some issues presented based on feedback
Removes the word murderboning, murderboning-enabled antagonists are now just called BBG as per epic tabletop lingo (this is /tg/ right?)
Allows for normal antagonists to select a gimmick/backstory in addition to their objectives that allows them a lot more flexibility in their antag capabilities admin-wise.
I don’t really have a good reason other than it breaks that trust in Security granted by metaprotections. More paranoia in a paranoid based game is good yo.
There's this trend I have been seeing for a long time where if someone finds out someone is an antag, they just say X is X antag , or even worse, X is bad in comms. Now everyone knows that person is an antag because they know traitors are valid, and they know bad means valid . There's literally 0 RP in this, and is using metaknowledge as people know bad = valid. The intent in these callouts is purely a play to win playstyle, as they only care about the status of the antag being an antag rather than what...
Many people dislike Regen Coma. Whether it is because they don't want to suffer its fake death stun during combat, or because they'd rather just heal themselves.
I'll be mainly referring to the former since it's what makes it extremely annoying. Getting in combat with an antagonist, like Nukies, while having Regen Coma is a death sentence since it's just so obvious and the stun is so long. Currently, we don't have any way of choosing when Regen Coma is used, so it's just a trap waiting to be stepped on....
since secborg is a config headmins have to approve removal of the config so can we remove the secborg config so we can delete secborgs?
pros of removing secborgs:
1. people who don't know the past won't turn them on by mistake, such as future headmins and/or downstreams
cons of removing secborgs:
1. absolutely none, no cons, secborgs need to go
Any time a changeling decides that their gimmick will be emping from the vents, it just leads to the crew agreeing to rush a shuttle call. The changeling in question is aware of it each time. It's very boring and unengaging, which leads to all crew members having a bad shift due to someone wanting to rush the shuttle call as fast as possible.
Is there any chance we can make a ruling against this tactic?
/tg/ Admins volunteer and spend their time to make this community better and keep it safe. We should not tolerate their harassment under any circumstance. This policy should of course also protect coders and maintainers. They get harassment too for making bad PRs all the time. I hope everyone remembers when Ghilker first merged the broken mess he called smart pipes or Goofballs completely unnecessary departmental security, they received large amounts of harassment and dog piling. This should not happen for...
Too often on The MRP servers (Not lrp, Nightamares actually kill and antagonise) Nightmares end up being friendly, and or work together with the crew to kill antagonists, Whilst policy allows nightmares to do whatever they want, they ARE antagonists, and should not generally be working together with the crew, Because it wastes threat on the nightmare, and actually ends up being a threat negative as they assist the station and kill other antagonists.
This thread was inspired directly by Stickymayhem's Headmin platform (under his Make Silicons a Neutral Third Faction Again section), and I would like to openly discuss it. Linked here:
Silicons used to be a dangerous entity that formed an IC mechanism for punishment. They held security to account by locking them down whenever violence was done in public. We eventually gravitated towards a ruleset that prioritized not being a dick or not being disruptive, but that resulted in silicons essentially...
It is my strong opinion that 15 hours is not enough time for a new player to learn an entire department well enough to warrant being in charge of said department.
A longer wait time in my opinion also reduces the incentive for brand new players to specifically Speedrun a head of staff role exclusively for the perks being a head of staff offers (expanded access, better roundstart tools, meta protections, etc)and gives them more time to actually learn a job role.
Currently rule 11 specifically covers race, sex, gender, orientation or the like , this thread is focusing on the or the like section and is seeking one of two resolutions, either adding disability status to the list of covered things, or stating that it is covered by the or the like part of the rule if it is considered to be part of this rule.
This thread shouldn't need to much of an explanation but in short, I believe that bigotry directed at people based on physical or learning disability status,...
According to mrp admins, buying guns for no reason is powergaming, yet what about the goodies case guns?
you can get revolvers and energy guns, however, you need to actually make money yourself to buy them.
if they are not allowed on mrp, why do privately buying stuff exist? why are guns in goodies if you can't use them? for any other powergaming method, you need to actually go out of your way, but for goodies guns, it's just unassuming in the goodies section
As someone who used to enjoy drones and being a low impact way of getting autism projects done, and adding people back into the shift. It makes me a bit sad about the current state of drone nerfs all in favor of punishing bad actors. From my own perspective drones are essentially unplayable with the removal of the drone bag. Being this is a headmin issue I would love to hear if the new regime’s opinion on this issue.
quite frankly detective isn't an officer stops being a thing about 1 nanosecond into the round because
1. sec officers never follow up on your leads
2. sec officers will never come help you with arrests
3. if you want to have any fun as detective you have to break the rules and play detective as a security officer
In space station life, having maintenance access is a lifesaver. Sometimes literally. Expanding the amount of people who can interact in the dark and spooky maint areas seems fun. Plus, it removes one of the major incentives to play assistant for the access.
To kick off the new headmin cycle I thought it'd be nice to hear the headmins' thoughts on rule 12 as it applies to security, specifically on LRP.
Playing-to-win is to focus exclusively on a competitive victory condition, such as killing all antagonists . It is not empowering yourself to achieve personal goals, or taking measures to survive the shift
Previously sec players were allowed to round-remove any antagonist simply for being valid. Many admins believe, as well as of a lot of the playerbase,...
During the last headmin term there was a policy thread created proposing the implementation of a blackout policy for people who die. However I had a major issue with it last time, that problem being it was presented for LRP as well as MRP. I do not in any capacity believe this policy would be useful for LRP, however I do believe MRP could benefit.
So here's my take:
If in the event you perish you remember relatively nothing about how you died and who killed you. However you have a faint recollection of...
This is just a clarification that I want headmins to do.
What interactions are sec allowed to have with gun cargo? I always assumed that gun cargo was valid especially with intent to distribute to the crew, but the recent ban appeal seems to suggest that there is no issue doing this especially if using private buy so the crates are technically yours.
I would like the headmins to clarify their position on this as gun cargo often ruins the round experience for everyone when you have 20000 super armed...
From Silicon Policy > Other Lawsets: Rule 4. Purged silicons must not attempt to kill people without cause, but can get as violent as they feel necessary if being attacked, being besieged, or being harassed, as well as if meting out payback for events while shackled
Can we get a clarification on what cause covers in without cause ? Specifically when it comes to payback for events while shackled .
Brief backstory: I break into AI upload while the AI and borgs are Asimov. I change the AI lawset to HOGAN....
this post is a formal request for the 'discord janitors' (hereinafter jannies) to clarify what they mean by '...This post is the final time you can react with CUM or any similar semen themed reactions... (hulkamania, discord ).
this ruling is both spontaneous, with no merit other than a verbal claim of 'the head admins support this' (paraphrasing), meanwhile the public is left in the dark as to what is or isn't bannable under this new draconian policy. we need a specific wording introduced...
Since new escalation policy has been in effect, there are some new issues that have yet to be completely ironed out. Although this will happen naturally in-game, there are definitely new questions being raised with how escalation should be (new and old admins for example, may enforce differently based on how escalation was when they joined the team). There are two main issues that have come up a lot. I'll include the old policy as well for reference:
1) When a conflict is truly over, and what it means...
Manuel players argue up and down against families for a verity of reasons and nothing ever seems to get done. I have some things that I feel are constantly contested or spark arguments I'd like the headmins to weigh in on.
Players hunting down command or security for performing lawful damage control or securing a strongly justified shuttle call are not valid. They are valid if their actions are not lawful or if the shuttle call is poorly justified.
It is punishable from an admin standpoint if a player...
In a recent round I noticed a player, during a back and forth of insults, call another play a cracker . I ahelped an admin to let them know about the breach in rule 11 and I was informed that It is our consensus that it is not equal to other racial slurs covered by Rule 11. I was looking around for this and I couldn't find the consensus about what racial slurs are and aren't allowed. The only post I could find about cracker was one made by Orange that was locked for not being sincere. I hope that this will...
For a while the discussion has come up that Spacelaw, although being rewritten for MRP, is essentially pointless on LRP. Most experienced security players agree it should not be given any weight. Most believe enforcing it at all will make you shitsec, ruining both others' rounds and likely yours as well. Some admins, too, have said it is an RP suggestion and has no bearing on the server rules.
I think this is a pretty big issue, considering 1) new security officers are misled heavily as they enforce it...
What the title says. I have been cucked many, MANY times by AI's and borgs after I one-humaned them because they would either:
a.Hint or state a law change OR
b. State their laws entirely including the one human law.
This sucks because immediately your name gets found out. the AI gets fixed. And you're antag round is fucked because of a silicon ratting you out. The one human law board doesn't mention stating or hinting laws because the law assumes the silicons would know that stating or hinting that they...
Thief is an antagonist, with more restrictions in who they can kill, this seems fine and dandy until You have people forming entire lynchmobs to hunt the thief
I believe in most cases treating thieves like traitors, is frankly overkill, and generally upsetting to the thief, they are very restricted in who they can kill, not protected by rule 4.
But everybody else is allowed to hunt the thief like a traitor, Even for something harmless where you catch them stealing organs from monkies, or see them building...
Although the rules don't directly mention what round removal is (afaik) it has been mentioned multiple times in ban appeals, and countless times in salty discussions in deadchat. For an example, for the one which directly raised an interest in this topic, take this ban appeal:
Ryan Creamer Ban Appeal
Although they didn't literally end anyone's round the admin still believed it to be a case of round removal. It could still definitely be taken as an example of seriously negatively influencing the round of...
This time it's about obnoxious hacked laws (or purged+only obnoxious law).
I searched the forum and wiki and couldn’t find any clear policy on it. I'm making this topic purely to have a link to give to shitters.
Or maybe I'm wrong and then I am the one in need of clarification:
Silicon protection in regard of rule 1 only cover:
6- Obviously unreasonable or obnoxious orders (collect all X, do Y meaningless task). Which can be resolved by having another law 2 ordered.
