Hello, tg players and other forum-goers! Did you know that March into Mapness has started? Did you know further that means you can submit a mapping pr (fixes, features, changes, whatever) and the first one you submit will get you an ANTAG TOKEN? Until april, we're having a drive to recruit people who have never contributed more into the world of mapping, presenting resources guides, and even a channel just for supporting new mappers to make it as easy as possible to become a...

I realized at some point I'd probably have to do this myself and have been kicking around ideas for it/trying to figure out how to best tackle actually going about a multi z map. Finally started actually mapping today, and started with the bridge (which is obviously set underground).
The bridge will probably be underneath the gateway/shuttle landing platform, which will be the only part of the jungle Z that doesn't break to chasm so you can't just fall into it.
As you all know noone has done much for Planetstation lately, and one of FTL13's mappers, Aerwhisp, and me, have been interested in working on Planet Station. So we're going to start creating a new map for it so it is atleast playable during normal rounds so we can test multiZ and see what TGs gameplay is like on a planet.
Once we're done with that, we also hope to implement some more unique gameplay to Planet Station and kinda hype up the production of it again! I'll mostly work on small features to...
I would like to get a full list of terrain or structure tile sets still needed for mapping. The github was last updated on Oct 15, 2017 are we going to keep using it or start over and try to get reorganized?
This is an ~ideas guy~ proposal to an alternative to engineering points as a use for extraneous power.
Ideally, the default SM setup would be enough to power the station fully, or at least near fully.
Alien artifacts and pieces of wreckage from the station will show up around the map, either as structures or objects. They can be brought back to the station ??somehow?? and then have power diverted to them for various helpful effects. They'd probably be a big power drain and part of engineering gameplay...
Progress:
All on planet areas mapped out.
Endgame/escape/starter areas need to be mapped.
Underground mapped out in some areas.
Stairs/ladders need to be made functional.
Need to do:
Starting cutscene needs to be coded.
Endgame mechanics need to be coded.
Stairs/zlevel traversing mechanics need to be coded.
SNPCs need to be coded.
During an escape to centcomm, one of the escape shuttle's thrusters overload and explode, spiralling the shuttle out of hyperspace.
I don't really have any plans for them yet, so now is your time to shine forum ideas guys.
Ideally they'll behave like lavaland mobs in that they'll have a unique attack pattern and move in a manner that lets you melee it if you're paying attention. No dumb heat seeking missiles that just run up and hit you like space carp.
I attached sprites for one mob, which also needs ideas. I was thinking of letting it burrow and ambush people as its gimmick, but like I said, I'm open to suggestions.
Kevinz and Goof keep hassling me to make a more depth plan about this so here is a first attempt. Obviously this needs sprites.
Stage 1:
A small tendril/nest/spire/whatever. It spreads a small amount of the gunk turf around it. It will spawn a monster or two of a single type (goliath/watcher/legion etc), but mostly it will spawn a number of weaker mobs that function akin to AI swarmers, eating plants/bodies/etc. They'll run from player mobs, unless that player is injured, in which case they'll attempt to...
Featuring three (large, aiming for 1k x 1k or so) Z levels stacked on top of eachother.
Z1 will be space. It will include various debris/asteroids, as well as half of a large destroyed space ship. There will be a bluespace cannon the crew can utilize onboard. It will be reached via shuttle from the surface. Thinking about going off the Z level throwing you onto the jungle (falling out of orbit) but I'm not sure on that yet.
Z2 will be jungle. There will be two large holes, one where...
Since planet station a jungle it should play midi versions of fortunate son , sympathy for the devil , and that one song by Jefferson airplane when a round is gonna start
We need to re-drum up hype and ideas for the project now that the freeze is over.
I am wondering what the state of the planet natives will be like. I can only assume we are not planning on cutting our myriad ghost roles that we currently have for lava land, and I know there was talk of mushroom people natives. But what about lifebringers and ashwalkers? Before there was not really any issue of the ashwalkers leaving lavaland because the only way they can do this is by going through cargo, which draws...
So I propose that because this station is on a planet very much like earth why would it be out of the question for people to ATTEMPT to live off of the station, so thus there would be certain new constructable items that can be used to support the occasional wanderer out in the wilderness. In the case they had to leave for some reason (wanted, hated, traitor, etc.)
A craftable hatchet like object:
Made with rocks, sticks, and vines
Some brute damage
Able to cut up creatures to get food from them
Can...
Because this isn't exactly a PLANNED colony , what if we had a arrangement in which hydroponics is partially a small/medium size room and a open grassy courtyard with lots of soil plots, a bit more like a traditional garden rather than a high-tech installation.
Most importantly, there are no vendors for seeds, just a creaky dusty cupboard with some basic vegtables & wheat, other foodstuffs around the station can be converted into seeds but inherently beside from about 3 hydroponics trays readymade,...
basically, they would be a race of mushroom people that dwell in jungle caves, inside the heart of each cave there is a spot of rich mycelium turfs which they start on. they can also disguise themselves as ordinary mushrooms for ambushes and stuff, they arent outright told to kill and they dont have a kill requirement like liggers because they can reproduce through other means that i will detail below.
I am fucking atrocious at mapping so hopefully someone will volunteer to take this over. If not, this thread will track my flailing progress. If this can't get done, obviously the whole project is dead in the water.
The general concept so far is follows:
The underground of the station will be an insland, or series of islands, surrounded by lava. A land bridge leads out to lavaland. The rest of the island contains maintenance for the station above, and maybe a few of the less essential rooms, like the...
a large bulge emerges in the ground followed by a crack, the light of magma seeps through
Im not specifically sure how this might be implemented since details are kind of scant on how exactly you get from point A to B but im thinking to myself of ways and reasons for non-station aligned entities to break out of the necropolis & lavaland caves.
In my mind it would be interesting if there was a way to tunnel or otherwise gain forceful entry to the surface, already i can forsee the ground cracking and...
Did he survive?
Was he lost in space?
Did he burn up in atmo?
Is he stranded in the wilderness with no one to save him?
Can ^^^^ this be an objective or possibly a random structure?
Brought this up earlier with Kor. Currently, most people act as though there's at least some form of implied round continuity, and the setting allows for it pretty easily.
Crashing every round might kind of get stale with regards to roleplaying it out. This is like 90% flavor, but what I'd like to propose instead is that the base/most of it at least is some kind of pre-established outpost. A ship/part of a station/etc. will be what crashlands near the base, maybe damaging it or whatever, knocks out...
What will be the jungle (and crash site I suppose) Kpa? What about atmosphere? Will I be like lavaland where you need internals, or will the vegetation create enough oxygen to forego the need for internals?
How about the subterranean levels? Will the necropolis be normal Kpa, or will the death and sins weight down everything there (high pressure.)
This has in no way been agreed upon by those reading, or running this forum. These are simply my ideas for planet station, on one thread.
---Lore---
The year is 2537. A Nanotrasen frigate has arrived at Space Station 13, a deep space plasma research station currently orbiting PX-VI, a lush jungle planet supporting a wide variety of extraterrestrial flora and fauna. Current scans also indicate the planet is host to an ancient underground city, containing hostile fauna presently seen on mining world...
Most modes will work pretty much the same on a planet, but others would need to adapt, and could be improved to interact with the new elements.
Traitors would likely get tools to attract the wildlife towards the station. Maybe if the supermatter is wired in the wrong way it could start making monsters more aggressive, giving sabotage opportunities.
Blob would have a lot more freedom to spread. It could, however, stand to improve a lot lorewise, since it could come from a piece of the ship that landed...
Kor complained about design document thread getting too long and confusing, and he's absolutely right. So I've decided to create this thread to discuss matters that I care about the most.
1) Cyborgs, roboticists and AI, they stay or go? It's really strange for a hastily scrapped together base to have a functioning AI connected to every system, but it's a sacred cow that I doubt should be killed.
2) Kor said that RnD is going away, but what about xenobiology? It's a really popular job.
3) Please don't kill...
I can forsee a arguement here about the changing circumstances of lavaland going underground.
Due to its new position with the necropolis encroachment, unless we super-impose a muted kind of underground lavland onto the existing station surface lavaland we visit currently in the game the two maps cannot exist within the same space.
- However people may not want the tendril effects of the necropolis on the space lavaland, since its intentionally a planetstation feature, and the space we have to work with...
How should we go about developing the first Planetary Station. While in all likelihood someone has already started, but nonetheless its a important issue to discuss.
We can go a lot of directions with the station, we could just port Box/Meta over and make minor changes therein. Or we create a new station.
If we make a new station, how would we go about it.
Would it be akin to Aliens, where you have a large base where all the structures are mostly free standing and don't connect directly with each...
Post revisionally abstracting my original idea in favour of using this thread to discuss ways to re-use ripleys as a effective & useful alternative to stepping outside with tools and putting yourself at risk.
For the big jobs where puny lumberback spessmen are at risk from falling trees or local wildlife, eviscerates trees with speed.
- Also how fast you cut a tree depends on the tool, a kitchen knife or any object that is smaller than a axe & has nessecary edged force (if using any edged weapon to cut...
Hear me out, because the surface is so lush green and pleasant, it would be ideal pasturing land, and obviously the encroaching Big Bad, and local fauna creates a natural point of contention for farmers to keep them on their toes.
> Cows, some goats maybe some sheep, a few native varieties of grazing animals (a small deer or something that predators eat in the wild) also makes the spacemen self reliablity for food, and pallette larger. Rashers of bacon, beef, mutton and exotic alien veal.
This honestly feels like a Goof PR im going to suggest, but what if..
We tame local wildlife that are unconscious (if i remember correctly some of kor's animals like his opening snake lizard thing have a critical health state, besides being splatted like xenos) from either high damage or sedatives by feeding them berries until they like us enough. Of course there's obvious restrictions as to what can't and what can be tamed, and the said type of alien berries are out in the jungle waiting to be gathered,...
Will there be lone surviors/natives? Like if some pod shot out and there was like 1 or 2 people inside and now theyre like 2 z levels away, surviving on what they can scavenge and find in ruins. That was my favorite thing in CM (well second, my actual favorite is kevetching as CL)
One of the most hotly debated aspects of Planet Station has been how it's going to be implemented if/when it is completed. Alienating large chunks of the playerbase is a serious concern regardless of how well received the finished product is. If we are serious about implementing what is arguably a whole new game, we need to figure out how we're going to do it. I can think of three ways:
Make Planetary Station the only mode on both Bagil and Sybil. Remove the base game entirely.
Have one server run...
To go with the weather system. I'm not sure if we've confirmed it'll have this yet, but it totally should.
>separated by a monster in the woods
>friend runs back to base and gets a search party
>the night comes and they head out the next day
>they find a dead campfire and no trace of the lost friend
Ok, yes I understand that we just went through a transition to the supermatter.
However: What about other options?
Is it possible to give the station a way to operate on geothermal/have geothermal as a backup power source?
Is the planet bright enough to support solars (although on low capacity since you're in an atmosphere so it's blocking some light)?
How do you COOL the supermatter engine? I mean, if we could do that I'd say use the oceans, and use thermal exchange pipes for that, but otherwise, is...
