Meteor Event needs nerfed

Meteors are an instant shuttle call almost guaranteed and can spawn way too early. Having them before 20 minutes is just a guaranteed the round is a farce from that point. Like bombs but worse, nobody wants to go all around the station fixing a bunch of walls and breaches, it's tedious and annoying.

you may have a point in that noone wants to fix them but those people just need to git gud.

As someone who plays engineer regularly and actually likes fixing things, I rarely ever get a chance to even start patching up meteor damage, since the shuttle is called immediately after the announcement goes out. The same can be said when anything gets bombed on the station really, people just LOVE to call that shuttle for even minor damage.

That being said, meteor shielding exists, and should honestly be purchasable from Cargo even when it's not the station goal.

catastrophic is worth a shuttle call, 2 catastrophics can rape a station

I've seen a single meteor cut it's way through ~30 tiles of the station diagonally before blowing up in the bridge, catastrophic tunguska meteors are no joke. Meteors also have a habit of damaging the cooling loop of the SM or making bad situations on the station worse. There is a bit of a loop where station damage gets the shuttle called -> engineers give up on repairing the station because the round will end soon anyways -> people don't think engineers will fix station damage, so they become more likely to call the shuttle. However, this loop is more of a policy thing than a coding thing.

Sounds you need a good ole' meteor round to refresh your memories on what the true definition of unrepairable is!

But I am in agreeance of above, it is really quite easy to fix the station and some engineers relish the chance of actually repairing damage!

so it seems like the issue is we actually need to disable the shuttle during the meteor wave and for a period after?

uhh. I'm sure its locked to not start that earl- oh, wait, no, somebody removed the limitation preventing meteor from being triggered before a certain time in the round.

edit2: it uses the default of 20 minutes.

Any time it's happened before 20 minutes is either the false alarm thingy or admin memes or wizard memes.

This, almost every single time. I can't remember the last time I actually got finished repairing something and the shuttle wasn't called in the middle of the repairs, or when I was 30 seconds away from finishing them. Why bother repairing if the shuttle is going to be called even if I repair the damage?

The round I was in it happened in 18 minutes, round time. Not sure if this 20 number includes time during the lobby setup.

it might include lobby setup, i can fix that by making it use the proper time function that accounts for that.

https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/32150 This however should limit how often the more destructive ones trigger during early round, as well as put some pop requirements on them triggering.

God BLESS the Admin who kept recalling the shuttle on people who dealt with the threats they spoke of. A true hero to men, women and indeterminates like Hathkar and I.
There were times where I was a roboticist, trying to fix breaches, before the flightsuit was a thing.

There's a difference between "the station is damaged" and "the station is uninhabitable"

Shit I'm nobody.

Have you ever thought that people who play engineer might actually like playing at being an engineer at any point? I can fully understand it's tedious for those who sadly have no space suit or long internals but to say it's tedious for everyone and nobody actually wants to fix the station is downright incorrect.
