I wish it would remember if you've turned the night lighting on or off. Maybe an auto setting that follows the rhythm and a manual override for on/off?

I thought it was to make the station darker, not prettier.
Shadows being good for sneaky shit and such.

I really like the way it looks. When it gets in the way, I usually just hack the APC or ask sillycones to turn it off.

Kind of weird its locked behind APCs, maybe having it be something heads of staff can toggle for their department, or on the bridge/HOP for the rest of the general hallways and individual departments.

It'd be ten times better if it wasn't locked behind the access panel.

I'd prefer it if it had three settings. "On", "Off" and "Auto". With Auto following the station routine and On and Off forcing it.

I also wish it didn't take up so much space on the APC. It and Emergency Lighting, I'd prefer them as toggle-able system overrides.

Emergency Lighting being on the APC makes sense, but Night Lighting should just be on the light switch or controlled by department head/bridge (latter case for public stuff like hallways)

Thinking about modifying it like this:
APCs have an on/off/auto setting synced to light switches in the room, without being access locked. Alt click light switches to change night lighting
Keycard auth is now able to force disable it, only requires one person keycard swipe to globally disable it on all APCs that have it set to auto, or force it on for all APCs, rather than the usual 2.
thoughts?

I like having an excuse to cover the station with strong bioluminescence glowshrooms. Permanently solves the question of brightness.

That's just a normal walking mushroom. They eat each other to grow stronger until only one is left.

Would be best having it disabled for work areas and keep it for hallways, living quarters etc, doesn't make much sense that NT expects you to work in a poorly lit room

what about this game gives you the impression that NT cares about workplace safety

It's more about productivity than safety

Really though I think it would just feel better to draw a line between work and living areas

Maybe instead of just the lights dimming and going red, we could add things to up the comfy factor. How about gently glowing patterns on the walls/floors? Making night lighting more aesthetically pleasing is the right way to go I think.

wish you could disable it in APCs without needing access

I think this is all the change (if any) is needed, gives a little more control to personnel in their respective departments as well. Plus, it'd have extra comfy to have rooms like the main area of the dining room with lowered lighting, but the kitchen still lit so they can see what they're doing, for example.

I'll open a PR later today where anyone can toggle it by alt+clicking the APC (as long as alt+click isn't already used by something else). That way players don't have to wait for the interface to render and I don't have to touch TGUI, win-win if you ask me

Looks like altclick toggles the cover lock, I'll look into ctrl or middle/ctrl+shift click

It would be nice if the captain had a switch to turn it off that wasn't limited to code red
