i didnt imply it required it, i just specified antag because ur wasting ur time most of the time, you wont usually be avoiding flashbangs as a nonantag and flashes are only a worry on rev or rogue borg rounds. That isnt relevant at all though it was just how i chose to word it, you're free to get as much sec gear and self defense tools as u want as nonantag

As for why flashbangs are busted or are modified like that, Flashbangs are meant to be used quickly as crowd control, and there's less reason to not have it on such a short fuse than, per say, A high explosive or fragmentation grenade. From a realism point of view.

Additionally, Sec officers are ALSO impacted by the flashbang if they're within range, although due to gear, if they have the right fucking gear, they still aren't impacted as long as before. Still, it does incentivize sec to not do that without giving themself time to get out of the way, because it's a bit annoying to be knocked down by it.

Another point, Chemistry ALSo has access to flashbangs, and can make them. It's not just a sec gamer gear.

Further more, These are, once again, MEANT to be used as CROWD CONTROL. They're not rechargeable and they're used up once they do their job, (Unlike a certain "Unknown item" possibility using the experimentor which is essentially an infinite flashbang), and if they waste it on one person, they don't have it for later, or for when they need it for crowd control.

It's a grenade, not a standard shot from an energy weapon.

the flash bangs used by sec and the flash powder craftable by chem i'm pretty sure are different unless it's been changed relatively recently.

Yeah, sec flashbangs use snowflake code instead of being reagent based.

Flash powder and sonic powder doesn't hit the person detonating it in-hand, so you can walk a chemistry flashbang into a room and detonate it in your bag via speech sensor or something. Popping sonic powder into a beaker and walking up to people as you heat it with a lighter is an epic gamer move.
