Wjohn in his infinite shittery got these dark carp sprites merged under a guise of 'fixing' the sprites.

Vote. Mega carp is purple, yes, but that doesn't really matter because if anything it makes it stand out instead of blending in with the other types of carp so don't bring up the mega carp which I can easily make pink if you are going to bitch about consistency.

Current looks great.

I prefer old but it looks like it is just you and me loving the purple fantail.

I liked the old one, current ones look really pale and meh.

Why dont we have both and when a carp is spawned it is randomly assigned purple or pink? Perhaps it would be sexual dimorphism amongst space carp?

The plushie toy carp reminded me how much I miss the old pink carp.

Is it physically possible for you to not go straight into personal attacks against me and read the OP instead? Me calling wjohnston shit for this is completely justified, you people call me shit when I accidentally include things I forget to mention so him intentionally calling this a fix is total bogus.

This is not only not a fix, but a downgrade. The new carp has less contrast than the new one and the details blur in more.

I wouldn't mind the old carp getting more detail work but the color change is just bad.

It was a poor choice of words on my part, I meant only to adjust them to fit with the megacarp and NT had done it previously. Apparently the word "fix" is still annoying people all this time later.

Its more people latching onto the meme of changing things to suit likes/preferences/personal aesthetics and calling them "fixes." This isn't a unique case.

Exactly. A fix is a very specific use of terminology in programing and design, and using it to try to slip changes in is pretty sleazy. Regardless of what you intended, it makes it look like you are trying to be sneaky and manipulative. This would not be a fix unless the sprite somehow had a bug, like it was transparent or something, and to people familiar with the terminology involved that raises a red flag and instantly will make people judgemental and critical.

Looks like being the key words here mind. I am not accusing you of anything, I am just pointing out something you should cease to make your own life easier and to help you communicate your changes and ideas better. A best practice you should take up in order to better persuade people.

Also this sprite is in many ways objectively worse than the old sprite. Yes, art is subjective, but in general design choices can be evaluated objectively when looking at technical projects and in this context the lower visual contrast makes the details of the sprite less clear, especially its silhouette, which is bad and makes it harder to recognize as what it is which is the point of any icon like a sprite, and the muted colors make this dangerous creature catch the eye less, which is not intended. The pink hue is not a natural color and people will pay attention to it quicker than a muddied purple.

I wouldn't mind as much if it was a brighter shade of purple and the lines darker, or if you went and tried to enhance the old sprite to have more contrast and detail, but as is this really doesn't look good.

I added the megacarp and intentionally didn't change the carp sprites, your 'fix' wasn't a fix at all

i decided to make a questionable new carp sprite in DM based on the Real deal.

needs much improvement, teal looks nice in space though.

I liked the old sprites because they didn't blend in very well, high visibility meant you could at least see death coming right at you and the new sprites just seem dull and unfun
Probably just my innate "muh tg culture" talking but I miss pinkcarp

Is everybody here blind, the "pink" sprite is purple. If anything it's MORE purple than the new sprite.

It is like hot fuscia pink.

Why not have both?

We did till WJ 'fixed' them

1. cipher did not "personally attack" you in any way, shape, or form, shut up
2. the end

keep both, just say the darker ones are female or something. or just give them a 50% chance to spawn as either with no change in anything else. you please both parties and it's a cool change to carp backstory or whatever.
