From a balance perspective, cat people are awful. They look exactly like humans, so for fast-paced decisions as a silicon it'll be kinda hard to discern whether you can kill/harm them. They'll also confuse the hell out of newer players, is this person a human or not questions will be quite frequent.

Their sprites are also awful.

As perspective, someone who totally isn't Dante Smith who already trades for purrbation every round goes on yet another rampage. A borg comes across him. The borg does not know if it can go all out on fucking his day up or not because it's literally just a human with 2 extra parts.

If we want new, legit races, we need to make them something that isn't just a human with something extra.

Cat people were only even allowed on the codebase under the condition that they were a joke "race".

So no, never. Never ever. Just wear the cat ears item, it's literally the same damn thing.

Why not add proper catpeople, with fur? As it stands, catpeople at the moment are just humans with cat ears and tails. If you're going to go furry, go proper furry.

Except all of those are actually decent-ish because they're visually distinctive versus humans. There will be no confusion for borgs or anyone else if they're actually a human or not.

I remember when people ostracised those claiming the addition of Lizardpeople or additions of these species to the code as 'admin only' were a slippery sloap to their future addition to the game.

I don't get the big deal over having a different sprite and why it genuinely pisses some off. Especially when some say other races CREATE CONFLICT, and yet those same people who scream that are the ones who run around the stations screaming dank memes or LIGGER LIGGER CAT NYAAA.

Its called theme and suspension of disbelief.

In my personal opinion Cat People would do a lot to harm the game's theme in my opinion, considering how bad they are.

I just fail to understand why this is even a proposal, a year ago I never would have thought this proposal would get any traction yet now almost half of us want it?

It's not a race, it's just people with cat ears and tails, and in practice zero disadvantage until lizards because the silicons are terrified of mis-identifying a human as a cat person.

There is very little way an AI can identify a catperson as a non-Human aside from getting borg confirmation, them wearing a helmet while still having a tail or them refusing to "take" their ears off.
It's literally just a pair of cat ears with no other thing defining them, make them attachable to your uniform/helmet/whatever instead of adding a "Humans but with x ears" meme race.
Lizards and Plasmamen are readily recognisable as non-Humans at a glance and have unique "say" verbs to make it even more obvious, and Plasmamen have the justification of being "hardmode" to exist and Lizards are basically grandfathered in at this point.

If you really want your animemes so bad, give it to Genetics so they can make you a real-life Human meme and have something to do other than become Clark Kent and Bruce Banner's lovechild. Seriously, Genetics' is pretty isolated from helping the crew since most of the time they don't really have much that would benefit the whole crew or a reason for the crew to want to interact with Genetics apart from being memetic with their powers. Letting them do cosmetic enhancements on the crew, even superfluous ones, would at least give them something to do when their research is done.

It's also interesting that people oppose cats for their subtlety.

Otherwise normal humans with weird ears is far more preferable to me than a ridiculously coloured frilled monster hissssing with its obnoxious name.

Would rather just go back to humans though.

I actually exclusively play Argonians in ES games, ironically enough. Never made anything but Argonian characters but they drive me nuts in ss13.

I just don't get why people are so keen on wanting to play a human with a tail and furry ears. It doesn't fit the setting and it doesn't have any of the criteria we'd want in a new race. It's just a reference to a fetish community. I'd be equally surprised if BDSM gimp gear was added and people wanted to play a 'gimp' job where you just followed someone else around on a leash.
