April Fools - It gets stale

Yo,

while some of the events are funny, fake PRs for example, this shit gets annoying after an hour or two. Please revert Basil back to normal gameplay so that players
can choose between the meme gameplay on Sybil and regular game modes on Basil. This would help tremendously to ease the salt levels.

In my infinite mercy and wisdom (and consulting with TheLongbowMan), I've removed april fools from basil.

Go to sybil for nonsense and chaos, and to basil to play ss13

There's nothing redeeming about unplayable rounds. It's kind of disappointing when we had a day where we could try to get more creative with buttons, instead all I see is rounds where everyone is an antag and there's meteors and a dozen tesla's out within 60 seconds of roundstart.

This is how I feel about most of the holidays here now. Things have degraded from "ss13 but with a twist" to pure spam. Or as HBL said

I will admit to spamming buttons for a few round but it does get old. Last years april fools was kinda fun with special stuff going on. This years it feels a lot more forced.

You can change a client's viewpoint but I don't think it works for more than one person at once.

April Fools should be "whacky zany shit" not "adminkill players as fast as possible every round".

The main problem is the Game Master, IMO. When I was adminning last night I just modified its can_fire to 0 every round. Improved them vastly, from what I could tell.

The problem with game master is that other april fools are at least slightly limited - they aren't gamechangers on their own, and in most cases require either an admin or someone else to "set them off". The gamemaster does things on it's own, and in most cases it's changes are quite... Drastic. Things like making the shuttle depart in 50 (FIFTY!) minutes, making people antags, removes access from doors (I think), spawns weapons, FLIPS THE STATION, changes sizes (often to the point where the smallest players are quite impossible to click on), spawns mechs etc. In other words, things that bored admin might do. HOWEVER, most admins are at least considerate enough to avoid doing things that would massively negatively affect round. This machine doesn't in any way understand players, and so it ruins rounds. Case in point? At the time of writing, server populations have switched around (at least in numbers), with Bagil (which doesn't run AF) having around 55 people and sybil (which does) running around 35.

I suggest reverting the gamemaster from the April Fools branch, so that at least what remains of it can be salvaged.

Problem I saw the most today was rounds dragging like crazy for 50 minutes with everyone dead. Admin intervention could have made the world of difference but they all fucked off or were too busy spamming :salt: in chat. Parrotmen shiting up dead chat was probaly my biggest gripe. I will say that watching people go full autistic rage mode about ponies is amusing. I'll never understand why a cartoon horse causes such ass devastation.

All in all, I give this a april fools a Wowit'sfuckingbadlikeusual/10.

I personally passed up on it.

If I wanted rounds where half the players were antags, nothing productive got done, and the entire station was destroyed in a meme firestorm within 20 minutes I'd just play on a normal day anyway. Not that much of a contrast lately between that and this.

Also to answer earlier questions, there's a variable in your player client file info thing that determines what direction the world is for you. If you flip it, then you see every tile flipped, and the whole map etc.

It is EXTREMELY disorienting to the point where I had headaches trying to navigate in a normal round.
