The crew seems more or less helpless against the blob (unless they find it before it can make anything) and the blob is more or less helpless against RD.

Is there any fix for this? Every round seems to have the same strategy (pop near science) and the same crew response (stall until science is done and win, otherwise lose).

RnD is supposed to be access to superior technologies so unless you want to make it automatically sabotaged at round start then people are going to pursue the same strategies alternatively you can have a blob pop at the mining shuttle and one in armory.

I think a good way to fix blob would be to nerf R&D and give security laser sidearms. It would promote the crew actually fighting them rather than just stalling until they got xrays, whereupon they do nothing and win. Blobs would likely need slightly higher laser resistance, but not to a ridiculous degree.

Getting swarmed with welders is worse than a guard with a bag full of guns. The guard will eventually have to go recharge, which is a time you can spend preparing to annoy him. A dozen greyshirts with welders can't be repelled so easily and don't have to leave until they get hurt.

Make sure they're at least industrial welders. Regular welders have piss-poor "durability" and will run out way before you tunnel your way to the blob's nearest node. Good for repelling spores in melee and softening up shield blobs. Just make sure to stand diagonally so it can't hit you.

You can be the best blob in the world, but if you get swarmed by 20 assistants in the beginning. You lose.

The new gatling laser just SLAUGHTERS blob. With x-rays at least you had the tiniest chance if mining was disabled and the crew didn't get enough materials to print more than a couple. But a single gatling laser will cut through blob like a white-hot chainsword through butter,

Human blob gave you a way to shape the round in a unique way.

Yes attacking RND was a solid choice, but its also really high risk and I know at least one blob that got executed and spaced by the RD when they tries to disassemble RND (Hint: Blobs cannot burst in space). Even if you pull it off, RND sabotage screams "BLOB INCOMING" and the crew can prepare in other ways.

Attacking Comms, breaking the SMES, stealing the armory, all ways to tip things in your favor and prevent the crew from executing the same standard anti-blob play every round.

Regenerating Blobbernauts are what made blob awful alongside RND.

Blobbernauts SHOULD have been saboteurs. Sent out from the blob to hit the station's weak spots and disrupt their anti-blob activities. Slap the shit out of RND, cockblock cloning, etc.. and it meant the crew would have to be on their toes since danger wasn't just concentrated in one corner of the station.

Instead with regeneration on the blob and health loss off the blob, they became completely focused on attrition. Blob attack cost 5 power, but blubbernaut attacks are free, that and its effect of intimidation/mobile shield blob/executioner of downed crew, etc. made it a god-tier defender for an absurdly low price. It struck at the heart of what's been crappy about blob lately, gone are the days of welder brigades when it was more important to have every assistant helping contain with welders than it was to play the long-game for RND. Blobbernauts annihilated this entire stage of interaction between blob and crew so its now just a standard of lasers and occasionally focus firing a node until RND finishes its "I win" gun.

Blobers been nerfed repeatedly and recently they cost more and start at half health wait and see I guess. I would prefer a saboteur but I think blobernaut turned out to be what blob needed given the aforementioned ass rushes still being tried with it.

Gatling laser sounds like a problem though.

Personally I think blobbernauts are fucking dumb.

In theory it's good, but in practice it makes a cycle where every blobbernaut is a catatonic crewmember corpse, and the more of those there are the harder it is to fight the blob, which in turn makes more blobbernauts which make more catatonic corpses and so on.

Capping them won't fix this. Hell, it'd make it worse because then instead of the crew all playing blobbernaut, they'd just be ghosting around, hoping a blobbernaut dies so they can play one.

I don't know what the actual purpose of blobnauts are when they're supposedly meant to fuk stuff up but their code makes them the goto Turtle item, but I think the forever downhill spiral of "Blobnauts Kill people who would rather play blobnauts than people making it so more people die since less are helping only to start the process over" all because blobnauts are player controlled doesn't really settle well with me when the gamemode relies on numbers AGAINST the blob, not numbers WITH the blob.

zombifying chem isn't that good, basically you're giving corpses back to the crew instead of having them trapped inside the blob

I'd say the most memetastic chem is the slippery one, run and you slip and blobbernauts kill you, walk and blobbernauts kill you anyway because you're slow.

I could get behind making blobbernauts more fragile but able to go off the blob. If they had like human health but were fast and did around the same damage they do currently but costed less and could go off the blob that would make the mode way more interactive. Since they're like humans it would also let coders give them blob guns in the future if they ever wanted them.

On a more serious note, maybe have each blobber choose a class, either like holos or they start weak and are upgraded by the blob. One could be the tough tank blebbernog, one could be the ranged blebbernog, and one could be a hard hitting but weak one, but I think you get the point.
