Seems pretty inconsequential right now since it isnt really a practical combat strategy. I think it's probably better that this big system get in the game without balance arguments though, always time for those later. Cutting hands off criminals is funny as well.

My only experience with this system so far was finding someone's head in the maint. It was creepy.

Exercise for the reader.

Anyway, bucklecuffing someone to a bed or table and striking the mouth with a sword/wielded fire axe resulting in instant decapitation when?
Constructable guillotines when?
Hand/foot limbs to remove, rendering prisoners harmless but not complete quadriplegics and for giving pirate captains hook hands when?
Groin limb when?

Cutting off someone's limb removes all the damage that they had on that limb which basically heals them for like 75 damage upon losing the limb. That probably shouldn't happen

I saw a guy punch someone using the Sleeping Carp technique and he made his limbs fall off.

I think this is one of those moments when a bug should become a feature. That's hilarious.

I saw something similar with someone piledriving someone using the wrestling belt and their legs flying off.
Also explosions blowing off limbs is amazing.

God knows I'm the last person with any knowledge about code issues, but didn't this happen last time we tried to implement dismemberment?

-you can do krav maga leg sweep without legs
-you can't use hands properly without legs; you can pull, manipulate items from containers, but can't hold anything in hands

What is the alternative? Transferring damage to the torso magically? Lowering maximum health with limb removal? I cannot think of a logical solution

Sort of intentional, I mean you can't hold anything while laying down anyway.

Easy fix would just make a removed limb do 50 damage to the body and start heavy bleeding. Pretty sure someone losing both their arms would be a good reason to put them right into crit.

Keep the limbs technically attached as stumps, so they can still take damage mechanics-wise; but have the limb item fall onto the floor, and the stumps be unusable (e.g. you can't pick anything up if you don't have any arms/hands) until replaced.

But you can, if someone puts it in your hands.

That was the method for my original version of this PR (Hippie+Phil revived it)
it literally just dropped a dummy limb and gave the real limb some flags to allow code to ignore acting on it/drawing it.

Half of the limb's damage is transfered to the chest actually.

You should be able to attach detached limbs to people, not just robotic limbs.

I think it'd be neat if genetics could grow new limbs that can be attached to amputees

I feel like there ought to be a particularly noticeable message when you get dismembered, or someone else loses a limb. I tried it yesterday and it didn't register that my arm had come off until I saw it on the ground: even if there was a message (I don't think there was) I didn't see it.

Given we're entirely okay with spamming up the screen with reports for every gunshot in a three round burst or whatever, it seems like we'll be okay with one more message for the most significant injury someone can realistically receive while still standing.

People just chop their arms and legs left and right, there seem to be no immediate consequences. I'm not sure if I like it.

/vg/ lets you start without certain limbs or prosthetic limbs.
I'd usually just sign up as an armless legless assistant and be a really big pAI without the cool features.

Chef grabbed me, showed me how to make spaghetti, then force fed me spaghetti for about half an hour.

It would be cool to have roundstart augments, but maybe not as good as what you can get in round?. You can lop anything off now so it balances having them now I think.

Starting without certain limbs would be neat, and can cut down on people asking to be made into stumps.

Pretty sure they were limited to peg leg, hook hand, or just a standard prosthetic which has no mechanical advantage or disadvantage.
Could also start with a mechanically assisted heart or eyes which fucked you up when you get hit with EMP, though I don't think they had any benefits either. Or start with nearsightedness and glasses.
