Why are projectiles so slow?

You can almost outrun disabler beams and lasers, they take ages to catch up. Shooting people running away from you is almost undoable.

I feel this is made worse by the pixel projectiles, while they may have the same absolute speed, you are guaranteed to now fire with a small offset meaning it doesn't really go as fast in the direction you actually want it to go.

Bay-style hitscan lasers when?

Even buffing speed by 20% or so would GREATLY reduce the time projectiles need to catch up with someone running away.

Bay hitscan lasers would be fucking cool and actually make laser weapons significantly different than projectiles. Unfortunately due to pixel projectiles the will be tough to hit with outside of direct clicks. I still think it would be cool though, maybe keep tazers as the golden bolt for balance reasons

Back when the server tick rate was 11 times a second, It used to be the run speed would round down while the projectile speed was rounding up. When that changed to 20 ticks a second the rounding stopped happening.

Wait does that mean humans are now max speed?

I mean lasers are light. How are spessman able to outrun light? How are we not destroying the entire universe by moving?

Not even close. They're not even at max with our current system, and mobs can absolutely move even faster than that cap.

I made a pull request to make projectiles faster: https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/21366

I made a pr to port baystation hitscans using pixel projectiles for calculations

is this the thing where you click on someone and it basically tells them to not move or they automatically get shot?

No, this is the thing where you click on someone and the projectile hits immediately.

Doubt that would ever work in tg, like, bay they have a really slower play so bullshit things don't affect them as much, imagine that here with our agressive/fast gameplay.
