How do you actually MAKE 3/4ths sprites?

Post by tacolizard » #311104

I've recently become interested in learning how to properly sprite and have read some guide, but I can't seem to find any guides on how to make sprites in the 3/4ths perspetive. Can someone tell me how?

it's easy really, just draw a normal sprite but imagine it as if you're looking at it from the top at a 3/4th angle, so that it's between front view and top view, make the top side brighter than the front because more light reaches that, you can highlight the edge between the top and front to give it a sense of rigidness/shape/whatever

this is just what i do though so i dont advise taking my word for it. ask a king like ausops or wj
edit: my profile is related you can see what i mean

yeah but like how do you know it's actually correct? Is there a way to measure the pixels on the top and side to make sure it's actually 3/4ths?

what's "right" is really just an arbitrary measurement in your head because more pixels at the top = more length and more pixels at the front = more height

construct the front of the sprite then the top of the sprite then connect the two together vertically with the front on the bottom and the top on top

theres no real "measurement" for 3/4ths its just a term used to describe the art design, none of the sprites are actually 3/4ths of visual pixels or whatever, it's to do with how the sprite is perceived

again like bman said, PM ausops or wjohnson

obligatory "3/4ths is shit" post, but yes, if you're trying to make a 3/4ths sprite it's mostly just down to "does it look okay and present some kind of angled birds eye view", there's no hard and fast rules
