I don't think that's a good idea either, but something to consider for sure.

Here are the shuttles! We've got Cargo, Emergency, and Arrivals all for your viewing pleasure. All of these are done with pod aesthetics + red lights to match the design of the North Star's maintenance. They look fantastic in my opinion.

The Cargo Shuttle! A little small, but it has a built-in conveyor!
Image

The Arrivals Shuttle! Functional, snug, and aesthetically pleasing!
Image

The Emergency Shuttle! A decently sized emergency shuttle that remains as close to multi-z as possibly, while retaining elements from the map itself.

Yeah I was just spitballing. Good luck with the review. Also that shuttle looking tight!

List of things I contributed to on the Northstar
for credit reasons

The Library
Pysch Ward
Construction and Tool Storage
Telecomms (revised by chesify)
Most of Deck1 1, but all of it was revised.
Abandoned Comissary
Cytology
Abandoned Engineering
Theater
Bar (Revised)

That's all I can remember off my head.

Still, great map to play on. Would love to see it in rotation.

Alright, map needs to be put back into the oven for a bit longer, and I personally realize that I've done nothing but this in my free time, so a little break.

Also I don't wanna be a little hater and I might be alone on this but boy do I not like the shuttle walls, they're kiiinda ugly, specially when compared to the normal shuttle's titanium walls

they look different in map editor. Think mining survival pod walls.

The initial design for it was to let the Bar work better as a cafe, being able to make cake slices to hand out with tea/coffee, or sandwiches and the like, while the Chef(s) work as an actual restaurant.

What if we placed 2 kitchens across from each other and made a little bar island in the middle

They look kind of wonky in the editor, once the smoothing is in and they've got the pod textures, they're honestly nice.

Staying the course with progress reports: not much to say at the moment, map is not dead (not by a long shot!) and it's still my full intention to get it into rotation. Been doing some minor edits here and there but so far I'm relatively satisfied with the map's general quality. Any issues that still need fixing in relation to missing job supplies/roundstart errors just need more tests to confirm, but that's for when parallax is fixed and everyone can actually run the map.

Here's the rundown on why I'm closing down the PR and reconsidering options. The North Star meets and far exceeds my standards for map quality, but the map does simply not run on Byond. It's too massively large for TGcode and parallax, and after recent tests I believe it won't be fun for me or others if the map is merged as is, simply due to maptick issues. I'm going to spend some time taking a break and then redesigning the map from the ground up using cues from the original North Star in order to get the project in a much smaller state. I'm sorry.

Also people being really mean wasn't helping either, screw you guys.

Where? All the feedback on the git and forums has been positive from what I've seen.

Discord users aren't people so what they think doesn't matter.

The people who leave feedback on the git/forums are usually completely different from those who leave feedback in-game. Very different breeds of player, one is usually significantly better than the other about leaving constructive feedback.

I hope this project does come back sooner than later, big deviations from typical station layouts are always nice to see to give the rotation some good variety.

Considering it is closed on the Github and I never got around to asking like I intended when you first posted this...

Are there intended server populations for this map?

Low pop, most functional pop, etc.

The original intention was highpop, but considering the pending redesign, I'm unsure. It will still be large, but technical limitations are hampering my interest in even trying.

Player plays a map for the first time, doesn't know where something is, gets angry at their mental inability to open a linked forum thread and look at the provided map, starts screaming, and then calls the map shit.

Don't worry, people being peabrained idiots isn't the main source of my reservations, mostly the fact that the engine genuinely cannot handle the map.

TGstation has a higher pop, worse maptick, and more things goin on. I've had four tests, with the final one confirming the map cannot be run in it's current state due to performance issues for all players. I don't have the maptick graph on hand but it's disheartening.

The issue is just performance, there's not much I'd like to change in the map if I wasn't forced to. I've been told the fact that multiz is very constantly used all across the station is the leading issue, but that really disappoints me because that's what makes the map and maintenance fun.

Don’t give up, but don’t get burnout too, we have a lots of time.
364 days time.
Seriously, though, super sad this happened. I hope the redesign at least goes well and as planned.

The north star is very likely not happening, everything I need to do to get the map optimized is not what I want to map and enjoy designing, and the idea of needing to redo the entire thing is just agonizing after I have a fully finished map at my fingertips.

I've been given some reliable information that the North Star isn't done yet. With optimizations from 515 and a number of other things contributing to the server soon being able to handle this map, I'm re-opening the project. The PR is up now, and there's a feedback thread on the TGStation discord.

Thank you all for waiting so long. I wasn't ever sure that what needed to happen to have this map run properly was possible, so I shelved the project until then. Now that I'm being given some evidence of the optimizations needed, I'm happy to bring her back for a second try. I didn't want to keep the project up until we had any confirmation, so I had labelled it as "dead" as not to keep everyone waiting for something that might not come.
