The following is a list of food items that you can grow but not use directly in any recipe in the game. If someone is ever looking for a dumb small project that only needs a single sprite, designing a recipe around one of these items could be a good way to get your spriting feet wet.

Poisoned Apple
Bluespace Banana
Koi Bean
Poison Berries
Death Berries
Glow Berries
Green Grapes
Wheat
Rice
Money Fruit
Cocoa Pod
Vanilla Pod
Snap Corn
Egg-plant
Poppy
Lily
Geranium
Harebell
Sunflower
Moonflower
Novaflower
Grass
Carpet
Kudzu
Sugarcane
Gatfruit
Reishi
Destroying Angel
Walking Mushroom
Glowshroom
Glowcap
Nettle
Death Nettle
Parsnip
Tea Aspera Tips
Tea Astra Tips
Coffee Arabica Beans
Coffee Robusta Beans
Tobacco Leaves
Space Tobacco Leaves
Blue Tomato
Bluespace Tomato
Killer Tomato

Additionally there's many meat based items that exist but aren't used in any recipes, including unique meats for goliaths and for almost all the mutant races in the game. Additionally organs as food are sorely lacking save for the brain and appendix dishes.

Remember you can ask for pretty much any item in a recipe, so you really have full creative control over something like this.

the problem of not having spriters for foods is one of the reasons Customizable Foods was born at NTstation. If you want these in a meal just get a pen and a customizable template meal and meme it up

If I had a penny for every time some dingus went to make a cheese pizza and instead served "cheese wedge pizza" I'd be a millionaire.

The point of this is that making a single sprite to represent a dish is about as simple as a sprite request can be, so I'm just leaving this door open for anyone who might want to try their hand at spriting something but don't want a big first project.

Sugar Cane, wheat, and rice already have recipes. No need to touch these.
Moonflowers contain moonshine and are basically just used to grind up for alcohol, not really a "meal".
Novaflowers are just fire deathnettles.
Im not sure you can even cook kudzu, or get it into some kind of holdable form that isn't a pack of seeds.
>Eating a revolver.
>Eating Carpet
Only if the carpet food turns your hair pink, turns it into floor ponytail, and grows a medbay uniform and hat on you.

Rice is used in recipes, you just need to add water first. Likewise tea tobacco and coffee all have obvious culinary uses

Thats why you use the pen, dingus.

It's an automatically generated list (that I manually put together), some of these things do have alternative culinary uses, or can be used in a more general recipe that accepts a parent of that item.

Making custom food imparts no bonus nutrients. Making a recipe does. It also has a better sprite. Stop trying to feed me your juryrigged psudeopizza

it does actually, nerdlord, the pizza base still exists and each item you add to it will increase the nutrients and reagents amount.

i'll feed you all the deep fried captain's spare ID pizza on a plate cereal sandwich cake pizzas I want

Cheese Wedge Pizza (pizza crust + a tomato + 4 cheese wedges)
25 nutriment
7 vitamin

Margherita Pizza (pizza crust + a tomato + 4 cheese wedges)
30 nutriment
12 vitamin

grow higher potency tomatoes nerd

custom foods are better because if you pumped in 100 potency tomatoes into the recipe, the pizza is way more nutritious than that margaritia pizza

Proper recipes transfer their base reagents too though, that doesn't actually change anything.

Quickly the pizzas would run into the reagent container volume cap. Depending on if the bonus nutrients are transferred before or after the normal reagents the Margherita Pizza would either have the same amount of vitamin and nutriment as the custom pizza or it'd have more vitamin and less nutrients than the custom pizza.
