technically discord is more like writing on cave walls because if you say something in IRC someone who just joins won't see it but they can see discord messages left when they were offline

since we don't have a (populated) general irc channel I like discord

it's a nice inbetween of a forum and a dedicated irc chat since you can see what you missed

if we had an irc channel that wasn't coderbus that people frequented, then sure discord is dumb, but I like having one and don't see why people are so aggressive about hating it

They can usually be seen communicating through ancient networks and insisting that everything else is awful. Sadly, said ancient networks lack basic features expected from modern era communications, making their use by non-dinosaurs uncomfortable.

You can always tell people of a certain age who use skype as voice comms.

It was that time not to long ago when Mum's and Dad's didn't really understand computers, so got the family computer locked so that only certain things could be installed. Skype was obviously installed, but they wouldn't allow strange programs such as "Teamspeak" or "ventrilo" or "IRC" because thats where viruses come from or peados hang out.

So a generation of young (less young now) kids were forced to use skype as a shitty way to talk to each other whilst playing games.

I've had a friend who insisted on staying on Skype even after I created a Discord server for our group. With Skype's mobile app crashing every 30 seconds, Discord was basically a godsend.
