Duke's Virology Speedrun Guide

Post by XDTM » #304747

Hello again from Duke's powergame guides

Today we'll be looking at how to make a complete (non-uranium) healing virus at minute 10!
This guide does not cover in depth virology mechanics, and it's meant for people who just want to push a healvirus out of the door and be done with it.

Start

You'll start in a cluttered room full of all your tools to succeed. It actually holds everything you need, unless, like in the image, you're in metastation, then the NanoMed Plus will be outside. Still, most of the time you won't ever have to have human interaction before finishing.

Step 1: Set up
Get your MedHUD, gloves, scanner and dropper equipped (set the dropper to 1u!). Grab a couple syringes, they're handy for distribution. Put the plasma in the grinder. Grab the beakers. Throw the rest in the bin, you want clear tables.
When you're done, you must place on the table the following items:
- 1 beaker for virus plasma (level 6)
- 1 beaker for weakened virus plasma (level 5)
- 1 beaker for sucrine agar (level 4)
- 1 bottle of synaptizine (optional, it's only needed for the start, more level 5 mix, or in case of fuckups)
- 1 copy of an initial virus
- 1 empty beaker for mixing.

[skip this if you're used to the drop hotkey]
Next, drag a locker near you. Why? Because putting items in a locker only takes one close click, instead of clicking the drop button, or throwing them into the bin, or walking to the bin. We'll get lots of trash bottles.

Prepare the virus mixes. Grab a bottle of saline-glucose solution from the nearest nano-med.
Virus Plasma: pour plasma and virus food in equal parts. 20 of each usually lasts enough.
Weakened Virus Plasma: Pour some Virus plasma in the second beaker and add syaptizine in equal parts. This, unlive virus plasma, results in 2u instead of one when mixing, so 5 of each means 10, not 5.
Sucrose Agar: 10 and 10 of mutagen and virus food, then add 10 saline. Now you have 20 Sucrose, which will usually be enough.

Example of a set up lab:

(In this picture i also made some level 3 mix before realizing i actually wanted no level 3 symptom. Ignore that one.)

Step 2: Stacking those symptoms
Now for what makes this fast. Now that the maximum symptoms is 8, and more importantly overstealthing the virus is harder, you no longer need to keep bottles of each symptom in case they cancel each other out or go above the stealth threshold.

The step by step is this:
-Put 1u of the virus and a mutagen of choice on the mixing beaker.
-Insert in pandemic. If result is good, clone the new virus and trash the old one, replacing it. Otherwise, empty and eject the beaker.
-Repeat until you get all the positive symptoms.

Special considerations:
-If you don't want sneezing, as soon as you get your first good symptom you should mix it with synap until only the good symptom is left, then build on that.
-Don't do all the level 6 symptoms first, or they'll make the virus too stealthy to detect. Get a level 5 or 4 before getting all the level 6 ones.
-When getting to the 7th or 8th symptom some may get replaced when mixing. This is easily offset by putting 1u of the last mix in the new mix, straight from the locker, until you get all the old symptoms on top of the new one.
-Healing viruses do not scale, and the side good symptoms scale, but really badly. Ignore stats.

Symptom list
In order of importance:
-Self-Respiration
-Regeneration
-Tissue Regrowth
-Toxin Filter
-DNA Restoration (this can cheese genetics real fast)
-Weight Even
-Sensory Restoration (fuck hearing loss)
-Ocular Restoration (not really important, but with this you literally put in all the good symptoms short of level 7-8)
