Admin whisper: You hear a voice in your head...
Revenant whisper: You hear something behind you talking...

This can confuse a lot of players. The first time it happened to me, I thought it was an admin using a spooky version of the whisper. Perhaps if they were not so similar, this could be avoided.

I once drove a captain crazy IC by making him think there was powerful treasure on lavaland, but that he'd have to sacrifice his crew to get it.

Then I made an assistant turn on the Captain by making him think a prophesy foretold he would end the evil Captain.

This is just another case of Icepacks being a shit admin who enforces his own policy.

I had a dude who was tricked into gunning me down when I was playing a Detective Clown, the real Detective walked into the office as I was setting my stuff up, the rev implied to him that I was the clown that killed his family back home, and I was trying to replace him by taking his identity, there was some discussion and loud words between the two of us, and I got shot to death. The Rev then went around the station telling people that he could prove that the detective was a traitor who had killed an innocent clown, eventually climaxing in them breaking into the brig and smashing into the Detective's office to find his personal morgue and my body.

I honestly thought it was absolutely hilarious and fit the role of a griffghost pretty well, I wasn't going to complain about being taken out of a round for that, because it felt like it had been a well-role-played situation.

If people believe the Griffghost's whispers it kind of creates a whole different environment than when people just jump to "Fuck off Rev" every time they're whispered by one, but having people feel that it's an admin whisper (which I know some have in the past) is also an issue because people seem to think they have to follow through on all of those.

IDK bud

Yes please remove the only thing that makes revenant have a funny and interactive impact on the round besides breaking windows to space

Just sticky a big bold announcement under the MOTD

"YOU HEAR SOMETHING BEHIND YOU TALKING" MEANS A SIDE ANTAG NAMED REVENANT IS TALKING TO YOU. BREAKING SERVER RULES WHILE FOLLOWING HIS INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A BAN. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ENJOY THE GAME CITIZEN

I guess the problem is that people, if they think it's admin intervention, take it as a license to murder.
I guess the problem is also that people, if they know it isn't admin intervention, immediately scream about the revenant so everyone can get their valids on.

Used to be this wasn't the case.

I say either remove it or make it interesting

I was thinking about this situation a bit, since I myself once mistook an admin whisper for a revenant whisper, and vice versa more than once. It gave me kind of an idea for a neat rework to revenants that would make them more mechanically interesting and a potentially greater threat, while simultaneously increasing emergent gameplay and even chaplain versatility. I don't know anything about coding or how possible something like this would be to introduce, or whether this is even the right place to post a suggestion like this, but it's thematically suited to the thread!

So the idea is basically this - make the revenant whisper a special ability the revenant can only use by spending essence equal to a certain percentage higher than the essence required for their round objective. Ex. Revenant must absorb 666 essence to complete their objective, Whisper ability costs 999 (150%) essence to use and drains their current essence by that amount when used (cost obviously adjusted as necessary for balance). The revenant can use their Whisper, possibly titled something else for RP sake, to add one antag-like objective to a crewmember of their choice.

"Your mind has been invaded by something unholy! You are filled with a singleminded purpose - [whatever the revenant typed]!"

The potential here for creative and imaginative methods of the revenant forcing people into antagonistic, or possibly just purely silly, goals a la abductor objectives, but defined solely by the revenant, seems like it's got a lot to offer. There's also potential for abuse, revenants saying stuff like "blow the SM", but I feel like the midgame nature of revenants as it is combined with the difficulty of accumulating so much essence before being able to use this ability might help mitigate that a bit. If you really let a revenant get powerful enough that it's able to give a seriously disruptive objective to one person, that's on the station for apathy anyway.

A few balance suggestions might be added text or just policy stating that a revenant objective is a singular objective, and not a blanket antag status, so a person who gets an objective like "Make sure the clown doesn't ever have a horn" wouldn't give the person license to murderbone just because they'd been given a revenant objective. Possibly a visual animated effect (occasional purple sparkles?) or just a shift-click visual inspection of a person, "They have a very determined expression" as a way of indicating that someone's currently on a revenant objective. Purgable and blocked by mindshield implants, and of course the chaplain would be immune -and on the subject of chaplains, bible-beating or holy water gulping could purge an objective as well. This could help add flavor to the chaplain role so they're not just the anti-cult guy!

Anyway, this was all just a whim of an idea thrown together in a few minutes after reading this thread and only run past the quality control of whoever happened to be on discord, so feel free to disregard it if it's as poorly planned out as I'm worried it might be. Just wanted to share what seemed like a pretty cool idea, thanks for reading!

the ghost that feeds on dead enticing you to kill people is something that makes this game hilarious.

Don't abuse the privilege and I don't have an issue with it :^)
