[POLL] Baycode

Posted: Sun Aug 24, 2014 1:49 am
by Skorvold
I propose for one week on Artyom we run Baycode or /tg/station13 code from here: https://code.google.com/p/tgstation13/.
A good reason for this proposal is to try and give Artyom a slight kick back in it's population, and maybe learn a few things code wise that players like better out of one or the other.

I don't see why this is even a thing.

Artyom will either switch to /tg/ code and remove Basil entirely.
or Artyom will be removed and Basil will return to standard population.

I've already agreed to the merger of NT into /tg/ that Rock offered.

tl;dr: No point in messing with the servers at the moment.

You could still run it for a week on baycode, no? You know, just for fun.

Baystation has extremely strict admins and RP guidelines which makes it unplayable for typical /tg/ players.

At the least I think this would be amusing. At the least.

At first, I thought this was one of the most horrid ideas ever; I was puking internally just imagining it! I have given it some thought, and now I feel that it is worth a shot! Bay could do for us what NT may do for /tg/ - give it some fresh and fun features that may never have been considered otherwise. Bay has some exceptional features such as the NanoUI crew monitor and FAR superior ghosts - they have the ZAS atmos system (which is going to be a MAJOR problem with rogue atmos/AI), and of course the highly complicated medical system.

Let us see where it goes, we might get some keeper features from it!

They can also get banned. Besides the point honestly the novelty wears off after you break the windows for the second time and zas isn't that deadly.

We could go to their mapping section and ask someone who made a different map if we could use their map.
I also think Wjohnston made Efficiency on Baystation too.

Bay atmo led to the greatest hilarity

>custom objective for "crew are too complacent sitting in the bar so let's shake them up a bit" event: sabotage station by disabling engine
>spawn powersink, drop it on power line behind security
>runrunrun past cargo into engineering
>crew yell on radio as areas turn dark
>get spotted, fuck
>cornered in CE office, security start piling in around the door, fuck it, hold them off with shitty pistol
>RD leeroy jenkinses in with egun, run around corner and C4 self in explosive seppuku
>blow out window
>suddenly find that everyone had been crowbarring every door open to find the powersink
>suddenly find that nobody had been crowbarring the doors shut afterwards
>evac shuttle called as entire station is decompressed from a two-tile breach

Oh joy, AIs that don't think they have to open doors for anyone because of laws stating "as according to their rank and role" forgetting the "with priority" immediately preceding it.

Imagine all those illiterate players that adding baycode adds to the game. I can just imagine it.

Baylaws are completely retarded imo
They remove all the fun from playing AI, since they cover all the things that asimov is NOT supposed to cover AND the laws all have equal priority.

I actually like the loose whim of our ASMIOV lawset. It allows for some interesting things to happen, as long as you play the AI as a neutral "third party" kinda view point, rather than working for NT etc.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Baylaws make the AI a slave to NT and it's hierarchy instead of the neutral third party it's supposed to be.

A good reason for this proposal is to try and give Artyom a slight kick back in it's population, and maybe learn a few things code wise that players like better out of one or the other.

I really really hope SoS agrees to this. Close down artyom and run Basil on vg/bay code. Imagine having both options of play style in one community? It may very well even out our population problem by giving players a chance to mix it up especially when you hear some say 'once you've learned everything you're bored' I have talked about this with friends before and having skorvold thinking the same thing and backing it as part of the administration team gives me a bit of hope for the tg community. I still think you'll need to assign admins to servers as their main server(if current admins don't want to admin the second server start apps for new admins who would like to work there) if we want to keep it alive. But this would be a huge step. The poll shows you the community agrees we just need administration and our hostest with the mostest SoS to get on board. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This seems very interesting. I haven't played SS13 in a while, but I've always wanted to try out Baycode.
Also just a note to all those people saying "Fuck Baycode", go play on Sybil or something while it's happening. No one's forcing you to play on Arytom.
