[X-POST] tgui lag issues? see this thread!

Post by tacolizard » #332472

posting on behalf of JamieH. He originally posted this on the hippie forums at: https://hippiestation.com/threads/tgui- ... read.7242/

I'm working on diagnosing the cause of tgui lag, if you're getting lag from tgui read this thread.

Okay so everyone just assumes your version of Internet Explorer is the most important thing here, but it's actually not - it's the version of MSHTML that BYOND is actively using - I've written a quick program to find out what version it's using, it's all open source if you don't want to run some random exe, although I'm not giving support for that.

You need to download and run the latest version of "GetMSHTMLVersion.exe" from: https://github.com/HippieStation/GetMSH ... n/releases

You need to be connected to a BYOND server to use this tool.

Once you've run it paste your clipboard into a new post in this thread indicating if you suffer from lag with tgui, trying to answer the following questions:

Does tgui lag for you?
Does BYOND lock up when you open up a tgui screen?
If so how long does it lock up for?
What version of Windows you're running?

"I didn't want to just go off the version of IE they had installed, you can have multiple versions of IE installed and I didn't want to make a guess on what version it was using so I just grabbed the version of MSHTML which is loaded into dreamseeker"

I am pretty sure you can't update it without updating IE. Trident and IE are more or less intertwined completely. You can try fuck with the components in system32 but that will cause more issues than it solves.
It would also surprise me if anyone manages to install multiple versions of IE, that's normally NOT possible. I've never seen it happen.

Also, if you can't update to IE 11 you are either of the following:
1. You're on vista or older.
2. You're stuck on Windows 8 somehow. Not 8.1, 8.
3. Your component store is corrupt/other update issues. This means other issues exist as well. If you're on 7 or earlier you should probably install since you can't get ANY updates. If you're on 8.1+, use dism to fix it.

I hope tgui lag gets fixed.
I've missed ghost role pop ups because it's just a white box 4/10 times.

ghost role popups are not tgui

Your bug is a major byond bug i've been trying to get lummox to fix that has to do with the embedded IE control flat out not showing up.

Oh, neat. It shows up after 10/15 seconds which can make all the difference between someone's headset coming off in time.
