That's a good point, erts go from centcom > station in seconds, which really does blow everything else off the table.

The Syndies don't have better stuff than Nanotrasen, Nanotrasen has an entire cutting-edge space station to spend funding on. The Syndies have a few operatives they've planted on the station, or a strike team and ship for them.

the syndicate are, as the name implies, a syndicate of corporations working together.
they're more than a few traitor crew and one team of ops, vastly more.

If I had money I'd commission a mural of a Syndicate CEO meeting to discuss progress on fucking up Nanotrasen, complete with a picture of the station and a mugshot of the clown on a board along with dossiers of antag greentext rates and a Deathsquad team preparing to breach the room to kill everybody.

Nanotrasen is the biggest fish in the pond and the Syndicate is a bunch of corporations/organisations collaborating to be able to compete with NT on anything close to an equal level. NT itself has grown fat and lazy from being on top for so long that they can't muster their resources or will as well as they used to.
It's also L O R E that different factions in the Syndicate don't get along and some have kill orders for their agents against other agents of rival factions, I believe Donk Co. and Waffle Co. are the biggest examples.

I remember their being some interest in making the faction system into code with unique objectives and restricted/discounted equipment but it sort of peetered out due to concern about people picking the murderbone factions.

I like the idea that the Syndicate are only working together against a common enemy, and should they succeed, they'd immediately turn on each other in the power vacuum. sorted this thread by author and just browsed all of kor's posts again and there's a lot of REALLY good art that i completely forgot about that i recommend you all look through again

also a lot of it has 404'd so i'm wondering if kor has a backup archive anywhere

My condolences to the family of Arclumin. It's a tragedy to hear that an artwork I commissioned was added due to his unfortunate death.
