Coding & Community number 991

Post by duckay » #471219

I am GAY AND A I AM ARGUING ON A WEBSITE
I'm going to go off on a tangent don't take it personally
i know its convenient that i posted this right after my pr was nerfed but I want to get this out there.
hopefully this is the right place to put this
Nobody likes nerfs, which is why they are downvoted so terribly, and some are rightfully nerfed to keep order within the game, but most get rid of fun, I won't go into which but they were unnecessarily overboard, as such, sucks fun out of the game, of course, if there are some things that result in unfair mechanics, sure, that can be removed, but as it stands, the recent changes to the coderbase resulted in terrible backlash, fucking redditors posted 4dplanners PR being merged which was pretty dumb, obviously the coderbus shouldn't just bendover like a gimp to the community as then it would just turn out as a horrible mess, causing a downfall.

I think we're forgetting what open-source is, and nerfing things on the premises that "It improves the game" despite receiving a lot of dislikes, contradicting the statement tenfold.

Take stench for example, despite massive dislikes from players and admins alike, it remains within the game, qust would dismiss your argument as lacking despite how much you try to convince him, and calls repeated complaints as "whining".

Whining still has value because it means they don't fucking like it, and when you have repeated whining you may have a problem, speaking of problems, people are apparently moving to Citadel, I have no proof but a admin on citadel on digg told me so lol thats something.

Thus, I believe the void between coding and community should be healed rather than other alternatives.

I believe the coderbase should NOT be favouring nerfs and rather favouring actual features, if things are so bad they require a nerf, don't remove the entire thing, hard-code it to say, remove certain chemicals, make it not form when you try to add it into the plant (sorry), as most coders (afaik) do not play the game they should not be the judge of who and what gets merged into the game, instead, get someone that does play the game and put them in charge of that, again.

I cannot express how much I hate judgements without playing the game, you are a terrible person if you nerf whilst not playing the game for a frequent amount of time, it's not rare that fun gets nerfed from triple A games but this IS open source, all PR's should be taken into consideration unless it really is a shitpost, in which case, it should not be.

Again, don't take it personal, it's rude to mention people behind their back but I had this resonating in my head and I had to let it out. Sorry.

And another thing, I don't know where this goes besides the trash and the NTR hut.

Open Source means you have what we have. It doesn’t mean every change proposed or a popular change will make it to the servers. It’s why other communities have forks instead of duplicates

They're (reasonably) mad about 4dshitter's "just remove the thing with other cool uses" approach to nerfing which keeps getting merged for some unknown reason

Things being disliked doesn't make them bad.
Making games "for the community" is stupid. Design by committee just results in everyone being unhappy.
It's also fucking hilarious to me that you actually think coders don't play the game. Unless that's some 70d Minecraft bullshit.

Things being bad makes them disliked though
If you see something disliked, you should at least take a look at it

Also not necessarily true. Plenty of bad things are loved.
Just to make it clear, not a big fan of stink though.

If no one dislikes them, they're probably good then

I'd like to think we'd shoot for better than that. There's also tons of stuff that's bad that nobody complains about because they got used to it or is only bad for new players who just quit. Yeah, generally speaking, silence==happiness, especially when it comes to balance. I'm just saying things can generally be improved even if everyone is already satisfied.

if u took a list of the /tg/ maintainers, threw all the names into the hat and picked one out that didn't start with E and end in xcessiveuseofcobblestone, it's a 90% chance they don't play the fucking game

Oranges does play, it's just an epic meme that he doesn't. I see him pretty frequently.
Ninjanomnom and cyberboss are both more of technical wizards than gameplay balance and feature guys.
Denton is a maintainer now and plays a lot.
Goof isn't even a maintainer.

most of the maintainers also rarely make design decisions either obscolene, they usually stick to technical review.
