Emoting

Out of curiosity, and I have suspicions, when is the last time you actually used the /me command to "do" something. Obviously mimes do it periodically (when they're not just getting around their vow with their PDA) but I can only think of one or two people who have actually used it for its ordinary purpose.

Occasionally, but not often. You can only use it if you're having a conversation, something that doesn't happen often. Mostly I see people use it to signal they're mute .

I use "/me salutes" when I see my superiors for the first time in the shift as sec officer and "/me rubs his hands" when I get someone to sign something as lawyer, I throw some shrugs and sighs where necessary too

I mostly use it to wave at spacemen through windows, or the other way around

I like to throw a blink or cough during awkward pauses when conversing with slow typers

Same purpose, but nod and sigh.

/me expels a long and loud fart while maintaining intense eye contact for the duration of the flatulence.

I use *frown as a catch-all response

Assistant accidentally punched himself in the face? *frown
Clown slips the HoS? *frown
Someone tells me a bomb just went off in medbay? *frown

I also make use of custom emotes a lot for things like squinting or giving people thumbs up.

I had to emote a sad face because I couldn't help the brain-damaged miner I was tasked with saving through surgery a while back.

you can still talk while you're deaf.

I used emoting the other day when a wizard gave everyone brain damage and I rolled losing the ability to speak. Though, I didn't use it a lot because I was on the way to explore space and had most of my gear ready by that time.

some people are too dumb to realize aoe deaf means you can't hear either so everyone is trying to talk to each other.

Fairly often. Typically in conversation, to salute an officer, or to signal that I'm bored for waiting on the other guy to finish typing his reply.

If another player is deaf, I'll mime things out for them if there's no nearby paper.
