HoP having AA

Hello,

I'm a fairly new player on Terry, been for a couple of months now (since about the Ssethtide but didnt come from that). I was HoP yesterday and a Captain threatened to have me killed for my AA which has never happened before... is that something people expect? In my experience Captains have normally been happy for a HoP to have AA to help them out. Obviously in this case I followed my captains orders.

For reference this was the captain who gave a 5 paragraph mega-law to the AI then got killed by a wizard-mouse.

well yeah without permission. I'll even just ask for some HUDglasses if theres a HoS or Warden available

It's well known the Head of Personnel will give themselves all access, if the Captain wants to be anal about access he's not completely wrong to get on your case about it. This goes double if you enter some other departments area and you're not the acting Captain. Just because you have all access doesn't mean the CE or the HoS will appreciate you being in their department without asking. The classic gamer moment is when the HoP helps themselves to security equipment or god forbid, the armory and the warden decides to just shoot them in the face.

HoP's can be antagonists.

It's culturally accepted for them to have all access, it's not culturally accepted for them to take full advantage of that all access. ( entering the armory )

I've never seen a circumstance where the HOP wasn't allowed in every department, outside of them being shit to the head of the department or doing shit that they aren't supposed to or aren't wanted to.

that was just a shit captain. most people don't care and expect it. i usually forget when i'm hop though (which has consequences when it's cult or nuke ops or i have to secure the disk)

Yeah this is kind of what I assumed, like if I was fucking with the SM or toxins or armory then fair enough but I hadnt abused any access. Thank guys!

EDIT: I honestly think this was a case of a new captain having power go to his head.

Just make an all access ID and then use it to give your original ID more access. Then it looks like you don't have more access according to the HUDs. If he catches you in places you shouldn't have access to. Ignore him and yeet away lol

Theres nothing more that I hate than HOPs who give themselves access/ play hopcurity. As HOP I don't even make myself a new ID, if I lose mine then I don't deserve to be HOP.

Just remove HoP and give his "duties" to the captain. Most HoPs are garbage, antag HoPs are even worse.

In the rare times I play jobs that can do something about it, I treat HoP's with all access the same as I see assistants with all access. Unless they've got a compelling reason for having it besides "Cmon man, this is what I play the job for, to steal all access" I take it away once any of my bosses approve.

a trick is to set your role to captain, then go to "custom" and edit the jobrole name back to your original role. The hud is based off of jobrole name and selecting captain just gives you fast all access to revert it with. It's hilarious how often you can get away with being an all access assistant/cargo tech/scientist with that trick.

People regularly mistake "having access" with "being welcome/allowed to enter" that same place to which they've gained access.

You can cut a copy of the key to my house, but I'm still shooting you if you invite yourself in and start looting the fridge.

thats why i always throw assistants with suspected all access into doors to see if they have it. once i hit every door in the station i let them go.

I'm pretty sure if they can't open the gateway then they can't open the armory. Throwing them into a door that people normally don't ask for (like curator office) seem like a really good tell without investigating each and every door.

Hell, just throw them at the armory door instead. That'll be good enough

Simplest explanation to any of this:

Access is NOT equal to permission. And entering anywhere without permission will have consequences, from being removed to getting a laser to the face.

If you've illegally modified your ID to give yourself access to places you shouldn't have, and you wander into the Armoury while I'm warden, you'll get the good old shotgun-meatspike wombo combo. Access does not equal permission.

In my day, as an old HoP main, it was assumed that we always had all access. But we weren't rude about it. The Good HoP uses his powers for good rather than personal gain. Evil.

With all access comes great responsibility.

Or be an irredeemable jackass and sneak into the brig to loot the armory to go valid hunt.

Take that a step further, only true HoPs never, ever leave their office out of the sheer fear that a tide of assistants angry that you had the gall to present them with "paperwork" as if this were a "roleplaying game" will be waiting outside the door to lynch them and/or steal their ID and/or murder Ian. You're head of the service department, just yell at them to bring you food and cargo crates!

I mean, isn't HoP in charge of overseeing Cargo and all of Service?
An HoP should ahve all teh acess to correctly oversee allthsoe areas (Hydroponics and such), to ensure Botany isn't making explosive melon bombs, or the cook sacrificing
half the station's living members to the gibber lord, or anything like that, so he DOES have to be in more places than just the HoP line to do his job effectively.
Also, technically HoP overseeen the janitors too, so the janitor areas are ones that he neds to be able to watch over.
