The second response to this thread speaks out in favor of the ban, and it's not a jannie. I think you need to buy some better glasses.

Listen, this dude was spoiling for a fight with the jannie that wanted to ban him, and he got exactly what he asked for. If you want to say that a jannie is not in the right for placing a ban here, your issue is with the jannie team or this server in general, not with this specific ban.

However, I'll give you this, and that's all only my opinion, there are some things that they could have done better. The action that was taken is correct in principle, but, it was used too early. If you want the relation between your players and the administration to be peaceful, it is one of the most important things to have a strong sense of fairness in everything that you do.
Fairness towards players is what differentiates jannies from real admins.
This started out as a minor rule violation, so you should be giving this guy a few warnings, a heads-up that if he is not interested in cooperating, the issue is not going to be about that shitty tiny rule that he does not care about, but about listening to administrators.
And if it still doesn't click in this guy, then you start escalating, you tell him what measures you will be forced to use, and when all you get to that in response is effectively "haha peepee poo poo" then you slap the permaban on him, you feel good about yourself, and the ban is tight and bulletproof. And if it still lands in a peanut spotlight, most dentheads are going to see that you gave him enough chances to avert his fate, that he was going to get banned sooner or later, and the players are going to feel that you are doing an O.K. job.

Not going to lie but if a player is shitty, i'm not saying having a single bad day but always a shit i'm 100% more likely to throw the book at them until they can clean their act up. It's likely just going to spill over to the rest of the server and ruin the game for the rest of the players.

pretty sure having 700 hours played doesnt make it okay to laugh at an admin when they try to enforce literal rules

I like to feel the danger, the fun comes from the line of what is and isn't allowed. But I don't want to actually get consequences from it.
