I did some autism only to find that only 3 out of 12 bingos are possible to achieve before the election is over. How peculiar.

Goof claiming to be the official Manuel party thing candidate made me chuckle. Some people even took it seriously.
Thanks for that one, goof.

although there are some people i would love to see get a chance at running our community, i think any way you vote this election will result in a positive benefit to the community. many great candidates with some great platforms and good motivation to improve our community.

exciting times!

positively excited,

There def is a case for some pretty bad choices for the community ranging from "let's hope they wouldn't get majority on their ideas" to "6 months bigge paine in ye ass"

headmins have no influence on codebase except, due to a quirk of the rules, turning the game into among us.

After thinking about it, I think I’m going to use a different approach to voting in this election than I did in the past. Typically I would just vote for competency and level headedness, but this election I wanna see some less obvious candidates take the spot.

Apparently other servers shit on us for bothering with democracy, but I think that’s the beauty of our system. Every six months candidates are forced to perform with one another and bring new ideas to the table. It keeps our community and administration from stagnating, and imo is why our community is subject to so much change.

With that in mind I think I’m just gonna throw my safe votes out the window (translation: middle of the list instead of top) and pick some of the less obvious candidates. I wouldn’t call him this type of candidate, but rave is probably going to be at the top of my list; I love his stance of the emerging “threat” of byond alternatives, among other things. Also would love to see someone like gogo, nameless, timber, or melbert snatch the win. Not the most experienced or seasoned candidates, but whats wrong with a little naivety?

don't vote for the tumblr/resetera admin
also what threat when unitystation and/or space station 14 are good who the fuck wants to be stuck on ancient laggy byond but it's going to be years before they have the level of content we do
RaveRadbury wrote:there are two projects that have sought to free it from BYOND that are now on the Steam Store. I believe that these projects pose an existential threat to our community that we must take seriously. In preparation for a future where at least one of these projects becomes successful, I feel that it is important that we take steps to strengthen and grow our community, as ultimately the community members and active culture are a finite resource that cannot be copied.
We must secure the existence of our server and a future for /tg/station children.

Thing is, it's open source, so if it becomes a multi-million player hit and kills all of byond, the code could simply be used to run a tg station spinoff, effectively continuing the server on a different engine. But it would be kind of a dickmove to swoop in and just take the code after everyone else had put in their hard work to finish it. It would only be fair if we also contributed our share to this project and further accelerated the death of byond and our server as we know it.

Not that I've spoken to anyone about this but I assume MSO will host a server on one or both at some point and over time the new servers will gain more of a share of the playerbase as they become more attractive to play on. But assuming it's hosting a /tg/station fork, who would run the new codebase? Why Swept of course, in the unfortunate event SS14 wins.

Opening the ism-can of worms is the best can of worms. This guy/girl? has talked about nothing else but this shitty point for 2 entire thread pages, and more is guaranteed to be on the way.

Personally, and that's just my opinion, the user interface, the complexity of the game, the steep learning curve to do well while still getting shitcanned over a single mistake and the coked-out powergamers that mow you down in seconds that also taunt you in your death, MAY be the more deciding factors why people just don't want to fucking play the game. Getting called nigger while all this is going on is merely the icing on the cake, but that's just my opinion man.
