i am going to code tcomms, tell me your opinion on tcomms

Im going to enable the cooling system, tcomms needs to be cooled or else it will slow down

And im going to expand the syndicate logging base to act as a tutorial for tcomms instead of them already having it setup

How does the playerbase feel about tcomms

Could you make it so the syndiebase starts with a basic tcomms setup open to expansion instead? I don't want to have to set it up from scratch every time I comms agent

But the syndie base also has a comms agent

yea im probably not going to do the cooling thing but on every map we have tcomms cooled even though it does nothing so i felt like it should do something

So what are you going to be doing, just remapping the syndicomm base?

other stuff if i think of it and i might make the cooling pr just to see how it goes

Good luck, IIRC a big part of removing the cooling requirement was because of TPS impact.

Can anyone explain what specifically they find difficult about tcomms? You just link everything to the hub, except for the servers and processor which you link to the bus. It's pretty simple it just takes a while to link stuff. Unfortunately the PR to make this easier was never merged: https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation/pull/72801

The difference with that PR was that the machines actively created heat, which would cause constant atmos updates. Making it slow down based on cooling would cause much less atmos updates, it just needs to check the current temperature.

I don't really care about the behavior aspect (tho I think it's a fun niche), but this method has my "doesn't eat all my cpu time" blessing

well it turns out the syndicate comms station just uses a relay, there's not much that you can add since the relay automatically receives and broadcasts messages to the station so i guess the threads over i'm not gonna code tcomms unless i come up with new ideas, i still want to make it more fun and interesting but i have no ideas how to do that

You could make something that hooks to the televisions in bar so I can put on low-quality television programming as a ghostrole like some other servers have

This is the take. Or just turn it down massively, sitting there tabbed out on the guide to tcomms and hearing loud chunky grindy sounds in the background is not a great time, nor is adjusting ss13 audio while doing so. Bonus points for tabbing back in to having been brutally murdered by someone because you couldn't hear them doing so.

Make it play from one source instead of all of them

The machine noises in general are way too loud and shouldn't go through so many walls.
It would be welcome change to tone it down to be quieter

People are saying "turn it down turn it down" no. Just disable it. I can see if the machines aren't working because they don't blink, they don't add anything, I don't care if the new noise is quieter or better sounding, I don't want some random bullshit droning in my ears when I'm trying to teach someone tcomms/fix a processor/do anything in that room.

Just get rid of it.

Grumble grumble I was talking to the maintainers and they probably won't let us just turn off all the sounds.

It's sound design, it's good. Our game is already severely lacking in it. Any complaints about tcomms is a complaint about not the right sound file used or the volume too high

i dislike this "sound poll"

some sounds are SUPPOSED to be loud/painful/unpleasant, cause the thing they're attached to is loud/unpleasant/painful

Well the PR was merged, it's not as bad now. Could still use a new soundloop.
