Looking for a new home

Hello all,

I am looking for a new home to play SS13 on. I have been trying out a few servers for the last few weeks and Jesus Christ some of those people are weird. Seriously, Goonstation is nothing short of an insane asylum...

Anyway, I was hoping to get an opinion from some of the people that have played here as to the style and tempo of gameplay one might expect. I like to roleplay and I also enjoy spamming my left mouse click pretending like I know what I am doing. Unfortunately, servers that are heavy roleplay tend to be very um... impotent. They mean well but they take away all the neat features that get people into trouble and are unpopulated. The more high paced servers are full of anonymity of the internet knights that do everything in their power to ruin the station no matter what their role is, or they are governed by fascist neckbeards that can't handle an opinion adverse to their own, I'm looking at you Paradise Station!

Some people have mentioned /tg/ as an option or as shitty competition but the point that matters to me is that you keep coming up. What is all the hype about? Are you the beautiful sexy people I am looking for? Please tell me you are not a bunch of ERP yiffing basement dwellers starved for social interaction or that you are ruled by a lawless band of power hungry abuse/bullying survivors that have to flex their index fingers on the weak civilian populace. Tell me you are everything I've been looking for.

Also, if you can't resist giving actual feedback and are compelled to throw out the first edgy thing about your experiences with the server that comes to mind, at least explain the inside jokes.

All my love,
GroundCTRL

If you like to roleplay, you're in the wrong place. We're ruled by a lawless band of ERP yiffing basement dwellers.

The administration is good, but the playerbase is, on the whole, not. We have two servers - one's always empty and one's always too full - and you can get a little RP if you look hard enough, but not a great deal. Don't come here expecting people to go along with your traitor gimmicks, because you'll just get stuncuffed and thrown out the nearest airlock when someone finds your balloon.

Have you tried Bay?

I'm playing there right now. It's alright but kinda neutered, ya know?

Not much RP here, sorry. We used to have a better reputation as a community that supported a broader scope of behaviour, but it's taken a bit of a dive in recent years with an influx of play-to-win types.

Play on basil! We need more players. It's a mix between light RP and weird gimmicks players like to run.

Basil might be up your alley if you can put up with the low population most of the day.
Though according to Sybil we're a hive of metafriending, ERPing, non-Human, unrobust Circlejerkers . Though that basically describes every server ever to be quite honest family.

Excuse me sir Sybil is a good christian server where we force heathens to repent by beating them to death, just like Jesus would do.

Roleplay is encouraged but not required here.

While this is a good idea on paper, most people just ignore the roleplay aspect.
You'll just have to get used to that some people want to run around silently and click sprites until they spin 90 degrees and stop moving. Not that its impossible to have decent RP, just considerably less likely when the population hits the usual peaks.

the RP is kinda in this weird state of moderate medium awareness and genre savyness

as in, you must behave like you're a crewmember of this space station, but it's almost expected that every assistant knows how to set up the singularity engine. like the game elements have become part of the universe themselves.

If you put the effort in to RP and talk to the right people, it's definitely possible to have some fun roleplaying

There is still roleplaying on Sybil, anyone who says otherwise is a fucking idiot.

We just don't go for the "MISTER X FEIGNS DRAMATIC EMOTIONAL PAIN AT THE REVELATION THAT PHOEBE LOTSU ABORTED HIS UNBORN CHILD" that Basil routinely has.

In the rare times I play I actively roleplay. Usually just robotics stuff as a hard, overworked and tired grump just trying to get everything done, as i imagine a roboticist would actually be.

Or when I'm tired/inebriated making passes as borgs as several of my characters are disgusting technophiles.

Some of the best RP I get is from other sec officers as security. Or in binary chat, silicons are the best.

I've never seen that on basil myself. Usually on basil it was just people with shitty names having fistfights until a staticnamer arrived and ghetto-arrested them both then suicided from boredom

?
???
??????????????????????????

I don't play on basil and I don't do RP about super melodramatic shit like abortion or pregnancy (nor do I know anyone who does that), why are you using me as some kind of dumb scapegoat

But yes it is possible to have fun roleplaying with people as long as you look for the right people
