Even during off hours, we've been getting unbearable lag. This has been going on for a week. What's going on?

why do we go from laggy engine 1 to laggy engine 2, when we have non laggy engines to use? RIP.

SM Generator 2k16

Didn't we reach a point where the Singularity produced little to no lag (or whatever its called)? Can't we go back to that?

As MSO said on the server the other day, stop it assuming its something when you dont know. From what we saw it seems like its a mix of a byond bug and possibly the tesla engine, but even thats mostly guesswork and elimination.
It definitely doesnt seem to be atmos or the singulo as it used to be in the bad ol days.

Just remove the engineering department and power stuff on by default if you can't resist plunging into immerse yet laggy generators.

I've been getting the lag at round start before the Tesla engine is up, and in rounds where it isn't used. I'm 99% sure it's not that.

So much power, so little lag, so much safety

Please take a mtr report between your computer and the game server.

This is most likely a network hiccup

Not just me, other people too. This isn't linked to any specific game mechanic as far as I can tell.

MTR report is a networking thing, i need to see what nodes your connection is passing thru and how much they contribute to lag to see if that is a cause.

http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/

download, unextract, run the 64 bit version, if it doesn't work, try the 32 bit version.

In the host field, type "game.tgstation13.org" (without quotes) Run it until the first sent column is at 50 (or more), then stop it and hit copy text and put it in a post here inside

Code: Select all

tags so it preserves the formatting.

This way i can see if it's a networking hiccup and where on the path it's because caused so i can yell at whoever is responsible for that internet node to get their shit together.

I see, so it's basically traceroute. I'll give it a shot, although given what other people have experienced I have a feeling it's on the host's end.

Its traceroute plus ping -t.

it keeps sending out trace routes and storing ping and packet lost info for each node.

lets you see jitter, ping, and packet lost for each step. so you can find issues

bump. server's been consistently laggy even when seemingly nothing is happening in a round. admins keep saying it's because of an influx of players from the hub. it's really, really bad.

Compared to 2 months or so ago, Basil is at 45 players... from zero.

people complaining about lag making the game unplayable makes me smile

I wonder what you would've thought of SS13 five years ago

It's the genuine other-codebases-than-/tg/-experience, laggy as fuck.

This is a special kind of lag, everything works, everything ticks on and happens normally, pressing keys or verbs even process on tune, its just clients don't get updates for 1.6 to 5 second time frames.

This would cause you to overshoot if you were moving (because you would still move thruout this time frame) all ticks would still count down, so shuttle wouldn't stop ticking like in other lags.

It's a bit more annoying then other cases.

New info from byond, I made a patch to avoid triggering the exact conditions that cause this.

I thought the lag was caused by two factors; high fps and atmos.

Considering I had high fps all the time, but an older atmos, I'm blaming fastmos for this one. Does that patch make fastmos less of a laggy mess, MSO?

it was literally a byond bug, leave mso alone gay_madison

fastmos just triggered the byond bug more often because fastmos triggers more often.

it's a byond bug at the core,

if world.cpu gets over 120, byond stops sending client updates for 1.6 to 3.2 seconds

I take it from the lack of new posts in this thread lately that the server is better now?
