I've just started looking through it, but it turns out that the coders put in a fake recipe for the megasecretchem Initropidril, that if performed in-game, would be indistinguishable from the real thing other then failing 80% of the time and giving a weaker effect. That's a dick move clearly designed to keep the chem to the coder's buttbuddies.

specifically their wraiths (which are basically our revenants), their wraith UIs, and their gibbing animations (implosions, fire-gibbing, shock-gibbing, un-gibbing, normal gibbing, it's all so cool)

Not copy pasted no, but you can look at it and see how it functions, then create something else like it in a different manner. Which is the basic idea of invention itself.

Also yes, the code does contain solarium secrets. There is no good ending, as we all knew long ago.

The solarium is a super-puzzle that involves gathering items from various away missions/space exploration z-levels plus doing a bunch of other things that I never bothered to learn nor try.

erichanson paid them a full bitcoin to not release the source. they released it anyway.

There was never really anything wrong with our dismemberment (except the bayport one, hell on earth so I've heard)
the issue was it never got in because of quite literally some of the worst cases of merge conflict hell.

Not really, a lot of the code is uh, less than optimal.
not to mention the style is completely incompatible

the only thing that can be taken from their dismemberment is "it's about limbs falling off" which we already mastered (if it could actually be merged into main tg instead of a codebase that died soon after)

All 3 (tg) times it's just been sat in review/merge hell.
The last time was Razharas deciding to remove some functionality from human drawing code and into it's own place.
this was HELLA incompatible and he refused to do something more sensible.

I haven't bothered since.

as for Rico's version I think he was too busy to finish his.

Anywho, even though there might be some cool stuff, gooncode is notoriously inefficient and laggy (at least my observations on there).

I don't want something like, for example, the infamous 'Every tile in the game checks if there's a mob above it wearing clown shoes to proc a noise' level of bad code sneaking into the server and clunking it up. If we do get 'inspired' by code I hope we just do it in our own way.

Good news, everyone! Goon has made a full public release of their code in response to the leak!

Except it's CC-BY-NC SA so it's incompatible with our license and we still can't use any of it lmao

It is licensed under CC BY NC SA. The SA part means Share-Alike, which is a requirement that all derivatives of the licensed material be licensed under the same license. The license we use for our code is AGPL, which is not compatible with CC BY NC SA.

HOWEVER, our art assets are already licensed as CC BY NC SA, which is compatible with AGPL as they are not technically required for compiling the product. Meaning that we can freely incorporate any sprites in the release.
