Community Meetings

I'd like to start a bi-weekly meeting for players, coders and admins to voice their concerns directly to me (or in general to the community at large). I foresee these as lasting for about 1 hour (to avoid boring people out of their minds). I'll be holding the first one on this Sunday at approximately 6pm EST.

Some of the things that I'd encourage are direct ban appeals, policy questions, configuration and round probability suggestions, admin feedback and map rotation suggestions. If the coders or other admins would like to participate as speakers, I'll certainly allow them to do so.

I've been dodging the task of selecting new Head Admins for long enough, and this first meeting will include a lot of time devoted to this.

EDIT: Due to the poll results, we will be using IRC today. #tgstation13 on irc.rizon.net at 6pm EST

e: On a more serious note, there are some excellent open source irc meeting bots, that can greatly help manage a channel while running structured meetings.

when we did the roundtable teamspeak worked pretty well
mostly because 90% of people were too shy to talk tho so that was a problem.

If everyone talked it would be hectic and that would be a problem.

listening to /tg/ players trying to formulate their thoughts and not sound like idiots while speaking (and failing at it) was the reason i never went to the vocal roundtables
text is not only much easier for people to complete their thoughts in a more composed manner, but its also easier to archive

no, it just means you have to listen to morons speak while shy people who would normally have something to say speak rarely or not at all because they dont want to speak up in a group of 15-30 people

Teamspeak might be neat. I'd be interested in participating in one of these.

You could just ask a buddy to speak up for you.

That's kind of awkward though. Has anyone done that?
Honestly though I think it should just be in an IRC chat or something, it's much more convenient that way.

A couple people in the roundtable asked me to say shit last time. It was fine.

Also twenty+ people in IRC all talking is a clusterfuck. With TS you have priority speakers and shit like that to make it easier for everyone to hear the important bits.

The Teamspeak one we had last was Fine, yes there was a bit of off topic discussion, but what was needed got done.

I'd say Teamspeak if possible.

Im pro the teamspeak as well. It can be moderated like mentioned and we can set priority speakers/mutepeople. And for miggles shy voice theres still a text chat area.

Also theres already a teamspeak set up and active so.

Unless you're talking about a different teamspeak, the only one I know of is not in any way affiliated with SS13 anymore.
If it's going to be TS anyway, then I'm not going. I'm sure I'll be missed.

We could try IRC and then try teamspeak/skype/whatever, assuming no clear consensus is reached. Doing it one way once doesn't lock us into anything. It doesn't really matter which to me. Hell I'd use Steam, I don't care. I just enjoy these greatly.

With IRC keep in mind the channel can be muted and allow only people with voice to speak. This would be best if we want to go more q&a format vs a roundtable discussion where people talk to each other moreso than to "community leaders" like SoS.

TS allows this too.

I would definately prefer we stick to TS instead of IRC. IRC can become a huge clusterfuck, with teamspeak having a bunch of features to make it less messy, and easy to moderate. I can certainly offer use of my ts3, but currently the only issue with it is being limited to 32 slots.

Crossbowman runs a TS of his own (not sure if it's still around, but it was where the roundtable happened).

Not a lot was discussed. The list of people who volunteered to be headmins was revealed (don't have it saved), SoS promised to get to headmin elections at some point, there was talk of axing Basil, and discussions of putting Sibyl on Metastation. Very few people actually said anything. I much preferred the voice chats.

i dont think putting meta on sibyl is a good idea
a lot of sibyl players, i have seen, have said they play on sibyl for box/because they dont like meta
conversely pretty much every artyom player enjoys metastation
for what reason was this suggested anyway?

because its a bigger map

aka it would fit the huge pop sybil gets all the time

A lot of Sybil players would migrate to another server that had box on if it changed.

I'm going to need names of the people who suggested putting meta on sibyl. I need to know who to give the "worst idea I've ever fucking heard" award to. The main reason sibyl is popular is because of box. Hell, the only reason I don't play on NT code is because the circlejerk group picked it up and forced meta down everyone's throat. Box is love, Box is life.

i like how you say that as if the players didnt choose meta for themselves
its not shoved down anyone's throat, if people dont like the map they wont play there, and im sure they dont

Box and metastation are literally the same map with a handful of layout differences. Box actually adopted a TON of good things from metastation durkel, so your epic trolle fuk artyom joke isn't exactly funny to anyone who's opinion holds any weight anymore.

Map knowledge is a large part of the game so obviously people who play to win are going to want the map more familiar to them. This kind of shit really didn't matter to server 2's community when metastation was on server 2, so we got used to it. Good luck convincing anyone with your argument of 'it's not box' you enormous faggot.

Not everything is a le epic shitpost, I'm stating the fact that a small minority of players wanted box for NT code and we lost out on it so we went back to tg code. Map matters enough to some people and that it is server breaking deal to some. Just brushing "Oh, and there was some talk about putting a new map on the server" is a issue when half of the players of sibyl don't even visit the forums.

And regarding my circlejerk comment. It is, artoym is just basil's population. When I saw that it was just a migration of one servers population to another I knew my hopes of box were dead. Of course the people who picked metastation originally would pick it again.

needs to be voice. inflections, tone, the fact that you DEFINITELY hear it instead of MAYBE read it, all these are important to discussions. Text just doesn't have the necessary qualities needed for an effective discussion about shit. People might not read everything that is put into the chat, some people's text might be pushed out the way. Seriously, don't be a fucking sperg and vote IRC only, that shit is ineffective as fuck, the round table in TS about badger was way more effective than the IRC roundtable some time after that.
