Linux and BSD don't have a client, only a compiler and dreamdaemon.
Since /tg/station13 now requires IE11 you can't run it on wine either, leaving a Windows VM or dual-booting as your only choices.

And using a VM has only left me with salt and a lot of black tiles

Oh god why? I had SS13 running through wine for some months now. Sure it was not perfect, but i could play the game in "no frills" mode without problems.

Its really annoying as only one small broken feature, the TGUI windows, makes the game completely unplayable.

I assume this kills SS13 for Linux, as i don't expect them to reintroduce legacy support for IE8...

SS13 for linux was barely alive in the first place, basically only good for hosting.
The most excessive signature on /tg/station13.

Use current versions of Byond and wine and you will be able to run everything except TGUI windows (they are stuck in loading forever).

really the only way to function using solely linux is if 1. you dont play vidya games and 2. youre a programmer and you're actually going to use neat unix tools
otherwise dont bother or just use virtualbox/dual boot

Wow good job you're pointlessly remembering dumb shit like that and wasting your time while it takes me a fraction of the time on windows to do anything on linux.

How to into Linux BYOND: Easy edition

Step 1: pirate windows from a private tracker so no viruses
Step 2: Use Oracle Virtualbox to make a vm with the iso
Step 3: profit $$$
Step 4: if it breaks, reinstall linux because you probably can't fix it yourself.

also i was extremely triggered by all this linux criticism. don't expect linux and windows to work exactly the same. if you are willing to learn how to use linux
you can do almost anything with it.

console commands are dank af. you pussies might wanna stick to your bloated GUIs, but on a command line you can get things done ten times quicker.

actually though, if you play vidya linux sux. new games are ported every day, steam works, drivers work, but not enough games are on linux.

I just noticed, that there was a Linux compatible server up again (byond://linuxtest.game.tgstation13.org:9337). I tested it a bit and found that no frills was available once again, allowing me play the game without problem on a Linux machine.

Is this server running old code, or was no frills mode re-enabled in a more recent version?

Nice, I can play again without rebooting into Windows.

On a side note: I'm still not able to use the power monitoring console (eternally stuck in loading and eventually freezes). Can i expect a fix for that anytime soon or is this an unfixable problem due to the size and complexity of this window?

The server is running linux and that's the test. If you can get your linux machine to work there it should work on the other servers too.

After a lot of bitching by people like me we rolled backed the tgui change so people not running windows 8/10 could once again play the game.

So far everything is working fine, a few of the old Linux bugs are gone (distorted gui windows(mainly sleepers and gas pumps)) and some buttons look better that before.

However, I just opened the power monitoring console and deamseeker died with an out of memory exception.
