havent played it but i think it actually looks neat


seems like one of those games that you will either love or despise. lots of high profile reviewers have been dumping on it while others are labeling it a masterpiece.

finished it yesterday
i loved it! calling it a walking simulator is being too nice when mountains exist. i played it avoiding conflict as much as possible (fucking hated fighting mules)

that cutscene thing is a tad bit unfair because it includes every conversation you have in-game when you deliver shit and whatnot and some boss fights are shown too
i won't lie and say it doesn't have a lot of cutscenes but they aren't as annoying as they make it seem to be
it IS a slow game and you definitely won't like it if you're not interested. i'm not a kojima fanboy so there's no bias

has he learned how to write? i might be able to forgive his directorial aspirations if he wasn't so bad at it and cringey to boot. the mgs games are incredible (not V) for their gameplay and to a lesser extent their story and characters, but their dialogue and his direction is awful

What the fuck is this comment? Are you from another planet lad? Because people like MGS games primarily because of the story and characters and dialogue and direction. The gameplay at its core was always barebones. That is until MGS5 which was one of the best open-world stealth games ever conceived. In fact, I think pretty low of MGS5 precisely because it's barely an MGS game. It lacks god damn codec calls about King Kong, and hour long cutscenes, and pretentious 2deep4u but also engrossing themes. What makes MGS an MGS.
MGS2 is the best MGS. When I first played it the ending (last few hours) blew my fucking mind. Is Death Stranding like this? Well I'm gonna try it when it's out on PC.

i don't know i really enjoyed the gameplay in ds

people act like all you do is hold forward on the left stick, but, like, no, the entire point of the game is that traversing terrain is difficult - the dunkey video made me fucking roll my eyes because the guy tries literally walking up cliffs and proclaims it's dumb when, as you would in real life, you fucking fall

navigating difficult terrain, avoiding/engaging enemies like BTs or MULEs, everything to do with the multiplayer systems - it's all shit that I enjoyed a ton and I think anyone who calls it a walking simulator is sort of missing the point

having played a lot of kojima games, I think the real kicker is things being lost in translation, both literally via direct japanese to english translation, and cultural shit

regardless I dunno I liked all of kojimas games and now DS is one of my favorite games of all time, even though it isn't perfect

it usually does not let you come close to succeeding like that

dunkey is notorious for using footage of edge cases and intentionally stupid shit to make his points seem more valid

he's crowbcat with less slick editing and more jokes

regardless I dunno I just liked the game a lot and was happy with my purchase and I don't get the people who try so hard to prove that is Objectively Bad And Boring And Stupid

well from what I read the core gameplay loop is tedious and repetitive, and from what I seen core mechanics like movement kinetics (watch where you go to not drop packages) look worse than say in GTA5.

not to discount the opinions of those you've read but i have 60 hours and the only reason i haven't put more in is that it's exams week

"repetitive" is like... I don't know, it depends on how you play, I guess?? most games have core gameplay loops that you do over and over and DS is no different in that sense idk

they aren't as pretty as gta4 or 5, necessarily, but in terms of gameplay they're infinitely better

if the game was as floaty as grand theft auto it would be fucking shit because you'd tell sam to stop and he'd just lazily turn and eat shit

this CAN happen in DS because you do have momentum/weight/a center of gravity that influences how you control, but the only times I ever swore at the game for making me fall over was some really weird edge cases where I was doing things that were honestly more my fault than anything else
