You can't even build tentacles though. They just turn into wood logs when chopped down and you can't plant them.

I did, then I got gifted a copy by a friend. Funny thing is is that I posted on the forums before the beta that they'd fucking abandon it and why and I pretty much hit it dead on.

I tried the nightly build. The client kept hard-locking my computer before I finally gave up and reinstalled everything.

The game is alright. The tutorial galaxy is nicely made and quests actually work now. Crafting is much better too. No more hundreds of metal bars needed to progress from one galaxy to another. This might not be so bad if they spend more time on it.

Edit:

I went on a special mission and my player model got stuck parallel to the ground after sleeping in a bed. I couldn't warp anywhere off my ship or I would drown in dirt. Had to start over.

Can you build space stations yet? I know that was a planned feature. Lel.

No stations I don't think. Your player ship can get really huge though.

Hey you I need coffee so go to a forest planet to get me coffee beans, okay now that you made me coffee go to a desert planet to get me glass to make a mug for the coffee, okay now I need you to go mine some steel to make me a spoon to stir the coffee wit.

The new quest chains are shit, I liked it better when you had to beat a boss to move to the next difficulty level.

Yeah that was pretty shit. The bit with the haunted mining colony was cool though.

But at the end you just leave all the miners to their fate, pretty shitty ending if you ask me.

The alien vibes were nice at least.

Quick note to the people who were interested in ocean bases: The Matter Manipulator comes with an upgrade early on that allows you to suck up liquids. You also get an O2 tech upgrade that allows you to breathe in environments without oxygen or under masses of water. Building oceanic housing is as easy as outlining a large area with dirt on the sea floor and sucking out the water in the middle. There are also schools of fish EVERYWHERE.

Is there any way to skip the starting tutorial quests, that don't actually let you go anywhere until you progress through them?

I can host a server. Expect some lag though. What branch should I host? Unstable, Nightly, or Stable?

Unstable is best at the moment

edit: Not sure if we can skip tutorial quests. It takes you 1-2 hours to get everything you need to leave the galaxy with every new character.

Please give me feedback on how it runs.
Edit: I'll be hosting at a better time, not a whole lot of people about now.

I don't want to play now and get burnt on it too soon.
I want to wait untill they make a big deal about the release, play it, and be let down while they're all patting themselves on the back for a job well done. I can't rightfully bitch about it publicly if "B-BUT ITS THE UNSTABLE VERSION."

I'd rather wait until it's "stable" before we start putting lots of work into building oceanstation or whatever.

Would be SUPER COOL to put a bunch of work into our new station only to have the game fuck it all up.

just wait for the big update honestly
thats the closest time in the foreseeable future that the game can possibly reach sufficient levels of fun to entertain for more than 3 hours

I still kinda wish mobs would "Raid" your bases etc like a bloodmoon on Terrira. I want to be able to make an autfort and then have to defend it.

Going through the initial quest stuff and digging it. Nice to have some direction instead of being dumped like a naked baby in the woods.

Too bad the rest of the game remains unchanged beyond the initial "get out of your starter system" quest chain.
The abandoned research facility on that moon was a good 9/10 on the spooky scale.

The final tier of ship upgrades feels big and a little bit unnecessary. In my floran ship I have a multi-storied helm, a meeting room, a kitchen, a freezer for foods/seeds, two cargo bays for 20+ containers(or one freight container with some extra shit), a crafting room, a farm big enough for every plant I could need and a room-wide hot-tub full of healing waters. I also have an extra four empty rooms that have no use to me currently except storing fuel in liquid form. It's bananas.

Hell if anyone has any modding chops we could make a custom tg station themed outpost to replace the default one

Would anyone be interested in a semi-roleplaying server on starbound?

The idea is we get a bunch of people. We assign them to departments. You use your ss13 character or a completely new one. You work together to make a massive base underground on a planet oocly. We circlejerk endlessly and forget ss13 even exists.

Starbound is actually not shit and unfinished now apparently so we can reboot this idea with ss13 departments we're familiar with (medical, command, security, engineering, service)

I can make a new thread independant of this one to start the recruitment process but I need a server host and good coordination.

Nothing about the core game has changed that much except for a fancy new tutorial, split armor progression because they added magic staves apparently, and upgradable ships ripped right out of someone else's modpack.

Other minor shit being removed hunger and temperature for vague reasons, and they went back to the "can go wherever" after they tried splitting things up into difficulty tiered sectors and realized it was fucking dumb.

As far as I can tell, the game is still dumb.

There needs to be more. The moment I can customize my own mech (or vehicle) in Starbound is the day that I will play it or put more money into it. I was promised mechs by the old trailors, and those shitty tech ball mechs were the biggest disappointment I've had since the day I was born.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we ever do get a Starbound server for TG, it had better be when Starbound can support a robotics department.

I would love a semi RP server. I originally got the position of AI at Icestation back when we were all hyped up for the game and unaware how shit it would be.
