Bottom post of the previous page:

They added a hub world, made changing planets not total shit, and also added quests and instanced missions with decently designed bosses that are pretty challenging. They still have tiered armors but they aren't as shitty as they were before because you can choose what set of armor you want and what weapon type you want to focus on is complemented by stats on the armor you have. Also armor makes you hit harder so there aren't retardedly high damage numbers anymore and having ridiculous weapons matters much less.

I'd wait until 1.0 comes out. The first few hours are awesome and full of discovery but once you've gotten to the outpost and done the missions up until you have a high enough tier to start choosing your armor type (like 7 or 8 hours in depending on how hard you rush) the game stalls hard. It gets a lot harder to get minerals and it's just not fun.

Yeah you can build colonies now and populate it with NPCs. It's a wiki thing though, to get a lot of things it's really obtuse and unintuitive. You can have all kinds of merchants and a ridiculous number of themed NPCs.

Probably gonna start this shit up again once 1.0 drops. Steam workshop will be nice to make modding easier

are there even any worthwhile mods? i remember looking at the server list one time and iirc every server that wasn't vanilla had like 30 furry mods

A few. I remember seeing a bunch of them that let NPCs on a planet grow and get more members. So like if there was USCM bunker they'd keep expanding their perimeter and spawning in more NPCs, and if they got big enough they'd invade other planets.

There was mods for having your own persistent vehicles, more enemies and challenges, better craft able guns, all kinds of shit

I am in no position to host a dedicated server but i could host for some tg funtimes. Probably with some mods though, XS mechs and frakin universe for sure

Been playing it for a bit, preparing to face the penguin dude now and the story presentation is pretty neat. Only gripe I have at the moment is that I chose survival mode. Dying and losing most of your shit is incredibly annoying.

Just reinstalled it. The real question is whether or not we have a server up. Also are guns still a pain in the ass to get? It seemed kind of dumb that the only real way you could get them in a sci fi setting where stuff like military bases and high tech laboratories are common was to buy them from birds in air ships.

damn this is looking way better than it used to be but how the fuck do I get rid of this fucking pet crab
and play novakid if you want a gun they can make guns EZ
also I found a shitty gun in a dungeon on the first planet (which I think always spawns on that planet)

Fug. The game won't even launch for me. Followed their instructions i.e. uninstalling it, deleting the entire Starbound directory which still didn't work. Tried manually running the vcredist, running the exe directly, and even verifying the local cache. Nothing worked. From what I'm reading on the steam discussions it sounds like Chucklefuck fucked up again.

Played it. Hate it. The entire thing is fucking dreadful grinding. They expect you to search every single forest planet at random so that you can click on random objects like it's fucking I Spy to progress past the first part of the storyline. That is just for the Florans. They then expect you to search what I believe is every single other planet in the fucking universe to find one of every village and then click on random shit there until you progress.

I can't imagine what the fuck they were talking about when they were making this game. They always said they wanted people to explore, but instead of making people actually want to explore they just fucking force you to grind out the entire thing, going to every planet and walk across the ENTIRE goddamn thing just so that you can progress.

They took a few good steps forward before they released. There was way less grinding than when they initially threw the game out there. Then they brought all of it back. They brought back requiring you to go to the ends of the universe to get fucking silicon boards to upgrade your crafting station, then doing that over and over and over again to get your armor, then they expect you to do every single fetch quest at the outpost to progress on the raids they want you to do.

I would refund this if I could.

Something else that happens is that if you go to a moon to get fuel so you can actually do anything you'll notice you have a status under your name called Spooked

Shortly after, this thing slowly floats at you Image

These are space ghosts. They're at every single moon in the universe. They only exist to make getting fuel tedious and horrible since they're invulnerable and almost instantly kill you if they get too close. The devs added these. Fuck this game.

Re: Starbound

Horrifically dumb space ghosts are in the game. I think the devs tried to scare people but these things are just stupid as shit.

Hell, your AI even tells you that they're detecting strange readings at EVERY MOON IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE and that's what these things are supposed to be. From what I know more of them spawn the more fuel you mine, so what this tells the player to do is to either keep suiciding into the Earth to get deeper and deeper just so you can get fuel to leave, or to spawn in all the fuel you'll ever need like I did. Then promptly quit when you realize how fucking retarded the story objectives are.

OH AND YEAH DID I MENTION FUCK THIS GAME

TO GET TIER 2 ARMOR

TIER 2

TIER 2 AS IN YOU HAVEN'T LEFT YOUR STARTING SECTOR

YOU NEED TO GROW COTTON

COTTON THAT ISN'T EVEN FUCKING GUARANTEED TO SPAWN IN YOUR STARTING SECTOR

MEANING YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH RETARDED FUCKING SPACE GHOSTS HOLY FUCK

THEN YOU HAVE TO GO TO RANDOM FUCKING PLANETS AND HOPE COTTON SPAWNED

because its a single unit, and its a liquid, and last I checked (Which was fucking months ago, before spess ghosts) there was a shit ton on every single moon, you get the puddle and bam you have 1000+ fuel from left clicking an ocean for a few minutes

Yep. Tried both a fresh install and verifying the cache, neither of which worked. The devs have a sticky on their forums that simply suggests trying to manually download and install the latest version of Visual C++ (Ironically they linked to an outdated version in the sticky). Seems like a lot of people on their forum are having the same issue along with crashes. Pretty sloppy 1.0 release if you ask me. Kind of what I've come to expect of Chucklefuck really

Yeah I tried that, and realized they're trying to get me to download an out of date version that refuses to install because I have the latest version. Fucking hilarious.

jesus christ the spiked morphball is the most op tech ever, for 8 tech cards I can just turn into a ball that can climb walls which does not even cost energy when in use, it just stops it from recharging and costs energy to use. it makes everything like climbing rope useless, just press f to climb everything ever.

climbing rope is still fun though, can we all agree the climbing rope is fun as fuck? there is also a grappling hook that is an infinite climbing rope which can have 2 elastic and long ropes out at once, but the rope feels more satisfying.

Re: Starbound

There may or may not have been a secret NPC or two underneath the outpost that you have to use a grappling hook or rope to get to.

Edit: Oh also yeah you can buy fuel at the outpost but the liquid fuel literally only gives 1 unit of fuel for your ship and it's 5 pixels each. Also I think they not only added the ghosts on Moons, but also made fuel rarer, because before liquid erchius fuel was very very common and you could get thousands of units in about five minutes, but I found very very little before I uninstalled.

the erchius fuel gives you 2 units though that you get from the moon. not that good either. and there is plenty on the moon. and why did you fucking use a grappling hook you unrobust scrub just use the spike ball tech

I never unlocked it considering that gear progression required me to find and grow cotton that didn't even spawn in my starting sector to get Tier 2 armor. I could've dealt with the spooky ghosts but when I saw that I was just done.

Oh also you can dodge all ranged projectiles by crouching https://gfycat.com/ThankfulEagerHyena

man you can get the spiked ball without even leaving your solar system you get 3 techs from doing sidequests at the outpost and from there you just need 8 tech cards which I got from doing random quests for florans in a village I found
