Rising Storm 2 is the sequel to Tripwires Rising Storm expansion for Red Orchestra 2. Instead of fighting Japs, you're now fighting gooks.

In lush forest maps and muddy ricefields, you will face off against charlie, or BE them. The US has a ton of fire support (napalm, willy petes, artillery, AC-130's), brand new and high tech M16's, a bunch of other weapons, helicopters, and the ability to spawn on their squad leader. Charlie, on the other hand, has handmedown shit like Chinese AK's, SKS carbines, and other Soviet and French guns. They don't have the high explosives that the US does, but they do get tunnels that can be placed anywhere to respawn at, punji traps, tripwire traps, and numbers. They can also climb pipes and shit to get around, as well as run through their huge tunnel systems in the maps.

Compared to Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm 1, RS2 is much more smooth in movement and overall gameplay. Gunplay and getting around is no longer clunky. Everyone has infinite stamina now and starting to run doesn't feeling like trying to get a tank moving. If you liked RO2/RS1, you will LOVE RS2. It vastly improves on the previous game.

You should be, it's absolutely amazing. Best vietnam game I've played, even over BC:2.

They added the new UI and a bunch of stuff for the new wave and holy shit it's pretty close to launch quality. Only need to add the voice overs, optimize hue city and it's done.

They redid the M16 after complaints so now the peep sight is actually not shit and you can see out of it.

Yes there's a flamethrower, however, US players cannot use their primary weapons inside tunnels, only secondaries (aka 1911 pistol).

It uses Unreal 3, only slightly updated from RO2/RS1's build. It does look better, but yeah.

Also, there is no beta going on currently, so you're not missing out on anything.

Apparently he started to get really big on his faith after RO2 or something and is now trying to make the game "PG-13"(???), eg. no swearing/etc.

I don't have a source for this so hopefully someone else can tell me if that's true or not, but I hope it isn't - it would be a shame for a series that previously put a lot of focus on the realism of how awful war is to ignore that for no apparent reason

(please don't derail the thread to talk about politics)

if i don't hear a GI yell about a gook in the trees I'll be disappointed

jokes aside I hope this doesn't have an impact on the game, I always felt that showing things as they were and not toning down violence or offensive words helps to drive home how terrible war is and it ties the experience together

removing bad words in a game about war strikes me as disingenuous

this would explain all the current videos featuring RS1 voice clips

There's been a pretty big backlash after the beta voiceovers were added, all because of that article, so i'd be surprised if they don't cave and make it mature. Even Bad Company 2 Vietnam had gooks and shit.

What happened? Did they change the voices to be more "PG-13" in a beta update or something?

I haven't followed this game at all and am getting it on a whim because I like realistic shooters and vietnam games so I'm clueless

There were no voices before the last beta, aside from the RS1 voices used as placeholders. They added the actual voiceovers for the game, which some sound good, most bad. Unemotional, flat delivery, a lack of curse words (marines say freakin instead of charlie, charlie instead of gook). Then people found that old article and it went from there.

They're redoing the voices to be "more intense" as they "didn't fit the animosity and intensity" of combat.

And the voice overs from Rising Storm were a bit shit, atleast the american ones that sounded like someone doing a bad John Wayne impression.

They were shit. Only one guy had a normal voice.

A dev commented on the new voiceovers they've been working on.

I don't really mind if they cut words like "gook", because though it may be a realistic shooter it's not exactly aiming for fullblown historical accuracy (eg. you can spawn on a squad leader) - it's still a game and cutting slurs like that may help broaden their audience, I don't know

not having swearing in a game where men can be lit on fire and you hear their screams of agony would be a bit too far though

it adds to the atmosphere, though

RO2 was the best mosin nagant simulator I've ever played. I tried Rising Storm but all those modern weapons like the Garand or the M1 just didn't do it for me. I guess I'll pass this one

I would rather the GI's say "Charlie" or "VC". I know gook is accurate, but maybe some of the language should be taken back to appeal to foreign audiences

Guarantee most of you will get frustrated from the learning curve and get PTSD. If you play RO2 a lot you'll do great though. I'll post some tips.

- Don't sit in cover if there's an enemy close, veteran players will suppress and rush you while you sit there
- Be aggressive
- Always use Semi-Auto on your weapons, except for inside buildings where full retard is preferable
- Turn off Auto-reload and auto-bolting in the options, manually doing those is much faster
- Turn on Spawn with semi auto on
- The M14 pierces cover, does more damage over range, and is more accurate than the M16, but has more recoil and no full-auto
- On some guns you can fold the stock for easy close quarters spraying
- #4 buckshot is the best shotgun ammo type
- To dodge SAM's in a helicopter, get below 75 altitude
- Hold R to check your ammo count
- Mounting your bayonet increases weapon sway until you fire

RO2 (and most likely RS2, I would imagine) are relatively low on the list of "difficult tactical shooters"

but whatever putting that aside - can you go into detail on why manual bolting/etc. is faster? I haven't played in any beta waves yet

There's a delay with auto bolting and reloading.

Also, RO2 and RS2 are not tactical really. You have to learn how to move through the battlefield, when to duck, dive, watch for where people die and where the bloodstains are.

Also, each map has a wind direction. It doesn't affect bullets but it does affecr smoke.

"tactical" is a buzzword used for games like this regardless of there being tactics or not
