Vietcong being able to spawn out of tunnels makes clearing jungles ptsd central for the US. They just keep coming from everywhere and there's almost always one within 10m of you. If your squad lead dies then you're completely fucked.

M14 with a scope was amazing but without one I always went for the M16. Why use either of those though when you can grab an M60 and retract the bipod and just go full badass(retard) mode.

After playing the beta I didn't think I was going to end up getting it but $25 is pretty cheap so what the hell.

Wasn't the M16 historically shitty? At least the first models issued during the war, with soldiers begging to be given back their trusty M14s?

M16's suffered from problems yeah.

I can't recall them without a quick search but I think they revolved around them breaking and jamming very easily, further exacerbated by the climate in Vietnam.

They weren't actually disposable, that was just a marketing thing. It was just difficult to load the entire 20 rounds into the mag because the last 2 were stiff, which made people think it was causing the jamming issues, when it was actually the ammo and a lack of chrome lined barrels.

This was their last statement on proximity chat, from January 2016. It's a highy requested feature on their trello page, so hopefully they've changed their mind.
3D VOIP is something we'd all like to have, but while it is technically possible on UE3, it's a performance hit and a half that we're not sure is acceptable. That's not to say that it might not still happen (if for example, someone came up with a novel way of reducing the performance overhead), but I don't think I can get into any trouble by saying that it's not currently a thing at the time of writing.
I can't find the later quote anywhere anymore but basically they said their ballistics system being calculated over the size of the maps is already maxing their CPU useage, which is why even with an i5 6600k clocked at 4.7ghz, I use 80%-ish. They do want it though.

edit: I found it, was in March.
We know that proximity/local voice chat is something that players would like, however one of the major drawbacks is that it can be a heavy CPU hit when our games already tend to be cpu heavy and capped (doing line traces between players is one of the most expensive things you can do for both the client and server, and we don't want to add more unless we can find savings elsewhere).

Then they need to have some way to be able to easily identify your friends nearby, because it's fucking ridiculous that I can't warn someone running up to me that there's someone nearby or whatever

it's easily the worst part about this game - it tries to rely so much on communication but makes it extremely difficult to do that beyond your squad

Squad runs relatively decently and manages to have positional VOIP + some nice features, RS2 seems to focus a lot on little details like accurate ballistics for long range engagements (which rarely happen) or the fact that overheating your MG warps the barrel

I don't work on either game so it's 200% impossible to say anything, but Squad was built from the ground up for positional VOIP because project reality had it as a feature, and Squad essentially (to me) is a better project reality (albeit without most vehicles at this point)

Nope. They said open beta before release. Likely the open beta.

Also preload is a bug.

They released a statement on future DLC.
Gameplay related content will be free. This has been Tripwire's business model in the past and will continue.

Cosmetic content will be for sale and will help fund future updates. We are going to handle cosmetics differently than KF2. We have no plans for a key and crate system and will likely sell items individually or in packs of grouped items. Acquisition of cosmetic items will be direct, as in, what you see is what you get.

They revealed the release date to be the 30th of may but they threw in another open beta so I won't be flipping my table today at least. Too bad I'm busy for most of this weekend and won't be able to play it much.

So the devs are fucking retards and ruined the leveling rate. It's the same as in Vanilla RO2 now, basically 3x the previous rate, even though it took me 3-4 hours of being MVP in every game to get a level past 25.

No, it wasn't increased for the beta. It was slower even than in RS1. They said they want it to "be more rewarding to level" when it's just a grind.

You know, if there's one thing I really really hate about the engine RO/RS uses its that most of the time the gun firing sounds of other players don't play.
Some GI with a shotgun sneaks up on me and a mate, blow the mate away but I'm completely oblivious I'm about to get a lead enema because I haven't heard a FUCKING SHOTGUN go off 10m away from me.

1. if you like shooters, yes - it's not as easy to pick up and drop as, say, CoD, but it's not as complex/doesn't need as much time and effort as something like Arma - it's a nice balance between the two extremes

This is literally a perfectly refined version of rising storm/red orchestra

Though the spray and pray gets rather obnoxious at times, and the grease gun has some of the worse fire rate I've ever seen
