In other words he played it as a graphical chat room, probably to text fuck other degenerates like him

This game is actually pretty good and if you're someone who actively enjoys Engineering roles I would suggest it.

Experimenting with gas chambers and more efficient furnace mixes reminded me a lot of my first time making bombs in Toxins, but instead of burning down the science wing it's burning down a chunk of the station.

Eh, kinda. The game actually is quite fun, and despite complaints you might hear about the UI it isn't actually that bad, but when they say it's early access, they fucking mean it. It is blatant that systems like hunger and the like are meant to be in but just aren't yet, the game is incredibly buggy (this one server I play on has to be rebooted several times a day due to random game breaking glitches, for instance), and while the game at least has a recipe guide built in and a tutorial that covers basic controls, it otherwise suffers the same issue games like Dwarf Fortress and, well, Space Station 13 have of having very little in the way of explanations for how things work, so you'd better hope the fan wiki is up to date and fleshed out, which it isn't really in this case.
Yet despite all this I still sunk 40 hours into it in less than a week.
