it's Dean Hall. Again.

Poor guy has a bad rep for SS13-related projects.

I read the announcement article on eurogamer and I thought he seemed at least aware of his failings (he said something about not releasing a shit game? forgot the quote)

I'm not excited for this, but considering he eased off of Ion (SS13 on an MMO scale are you fucking for real) and is at least admitting his faults I'm not going to jump on le epic rocket bash circlejerk just yet

>implying I'll buy it without knowing if it's good or not, though

I mean, he's posting an AMA on /r/ss13.

So its Space Engineers without the construction.
SS13 without the SS13
and the character models all look like Jebediah Kerman.

Did I miss anything?

I'm really surprised he's doing an AMA tbh

Will there be entertainment jobs? ie. Clown, mime, bar, etc.? If I cant beat up a clown to a bloody pulp im not buying ;)
I love a minecraft mod called environmine for implementation of some of the survival mechanics. Specifically their implementation of "sanity". We want to use this to give a reason to seek entertainment.
The more time you spend out in deep space, in your suit, mining - the lower your hygine and sanity. So you need to go seek out entertainment... maybe the bar etc... So yes we see these are being key parts.
Clown or Mime required to not have a tantrum spiral? Visiting the bar? Can't be covered in blood forever? Need to shower? Is this even SS13?
Note that we are not attempting to remake SS13, I am very interesting is taking the concepts of SS13 and applying persistence. So it is much more about construction and the "away missions" than about round-based play.
if you're going to bash the guy at least pick something to bash he doesn't specifically address in the parent post dude, so many of your quotes just seem like ridiculous nitpicking, especially when you sarcastically say "riiight" to the guy saying "I play on [server you don't play on]"

Also can you provide a source on out of ammo being abandoned/finished/whatever? haven't heard anything negative about it beyond people disliking rocket specifically, but I haven't followed it closely so I could be wrong on that

To be entirely fair, it's rocket, ofc he's gonna get shit on, the preemptive defending himself was to be expected, and I don't know what baymed is beyond "a medical system", not unreasonable for someone to not know things like that

Ty for the info on the game though, wasn't sure if that was another circlejerk or not

I think he just has a lot of love for the game and wants to make something similar, not that he feels the need to use SS13 as a big draw to it

if anything using ties to SS13 as your main appeal is a terrible idea because of the remake curse

Expecting anything of Dean Hall's promises with his track record shows how retarded you are.

Looks more like a simplified version of Space Engineers.

Which might not be a bad thing as a game not dripping in autism might actually have netcode that is playable.

the existence of stuff like TTT/murder/other relatively simple traitor based games means there's probably a niche between SS13 with all its simulations and fuckloads of content, and simpler things like the aforementioned TTT style games, so it'll be interesting to see if this takes off

I wasn't aware it was going in a different direction, if it is then it'll probably be better than an attempt to clone traitor style games/SS13

It almost looks like Space Engineers, but with non-shit graphics

looking forward to it, hopefully it'll be good - the featurelist in the OP sounds impressive

I'd imagine it won't be as deep as ss13 (which is something he's admitted in multiple posts in the past) but it'll be a pretty fun game by the sounds of that feature list

thread title here is still awful

looks to be the most promising ss13 remake/inspired-by game. personally would have preferred top-down like we have over first person (and have it be free and open source so we could have a github community but i know that's a lot to ask) but eh

I played on a server with 10 people, restarted about 3 times before we figured out how to do a proper airlock system and get some basic atmospherics going. Was fun.

The UI fuckin' sucks though.

At least one of the top negative reviews is a casul whining about hands.

Has more potential than you might realise SE has no liquids and atmos is rudimentary there.

Might get abandoned tho I don't see it selling great and will hold off before buying personally.

Only thing missing is moving voxel terrain really oh and graffix but those be for fools.

It's clunky on the controls but I am having fun. It has the aspects of ss13 that I enjoy the most. I have a private ss13 instance just for building separate aux bases. This is alpha and its currently a fun distraction. We will see if the refinements and additions over time make it a great game.

I heard the UI doesn't have mouse support (???) which is absurd but otherwise it sounds like a game I'd really love to play

The fact that my mouse is always tied to looking direction is the bane of my existence. I want to be able to point and click my inventory but the more I play the more I am getting use to the hotkeys.

Yeah kinda? It has that feel and that part I dont mind but the mouse wheel scrolling takes getting use to. Also some of the controls are just a touch different than ss13 that it has been messing me up :)

Tried watching a stream. Some guy named giantwaffle with 4.5k spectators. Said he played and loved ss13, but played mainly bartender cause enginnering is hard. Needless to say it was painful to watch, how these people climb out of bed eludes me.

In other words he played it as a graphical chat room, probably to text fuck other degenerates like him
