it's the holes they take you to when they grab you and run away

you can't actually enter it, you need to follow them though when you're feeding them to see if they're friendly when they come out, if they are they'll follow you

I finally got past the toll...
I dropped a pearl in front of them and one took it and ran the fuck off...
then i sort of crawled up to the totem and then sprinted past it before anything could just kill me...

scissorbirds in my opinion are some of the scariest shit, they constantly run and have no emotion that you really cant tame them (they're so emotionless the only reaction it had to a spear was just walking with a limp, im not even sure you can kill them never tried) hell even vultures show more emotion, and the sounds they make CLANG CLANG CLANG in the distance impending doom unless you QUICKLY hide in a hole, and even then they'll try to stick their giant scissor beaks in your hidey hole and try to pluck you out.

my tip: throw firecracker mushrooms as they stun them for a short while (tv-screen eyes)

oh yeah i tamed a black lizard, it's cute and also scavengers run on sight cause they're way more scared of black lizards (just like white lizards are terrified of vultures more than anything)

I just encountered them it took the whole day to avoid them and reach the leg then I fell but I wouldve starved if I didnt
the birds didnt scare me because instead of thinking of it as a soulless monster I thought of it as a really dumb bird with peg legs

FINALLY made it to the next area, the Garbage Wastes. I'm apparently a lot better at dodging than hitting, as I just booked it past like seven scavengers and two tentacle monsters in a really long tunnel to make it to a new bunker.

I've not even played and only checked this on youtube and it appears most of the game was designed for this. And it does so really well
That said, the youtube I found kinda sucked. Anyone have a suggestion for one that I can watch that isn't some random being loud and obnoxious while running into a wall for a few hours?

it's not a death jump it was that really shitty pole with a platform on it and you need a spear to enter the leg from there, i thought you have to use the hookworm but it turns out there were just no spears spawning for me so it was fucking shitty and impossible

but now im past all of that way ahead

also pro tip I just discovered if you grab onto a pole monster by accident if you jump off quickly enough you can survive it

If you throw a spear at the top of a pole monster you can grab it back as it retreats into the ground and dies.

also backflips/rolls/everything works for me? maybe you're fucking the order of jumping and then moving up.

It has nothing to do with what wall it hits, it has to do with how close to the wall you are when you throw it, aka velocity of the spear.
