There's so much grind it's basically a chat room (you can't AFK grind), but the people there are usually fun to talk to. I stopped playing 2 years ago though, I was in CHILL.
Also you have to set up some macros or it will be painful
when did that comic happen? I played some time ago, (1-2 years) and the only notable people were a clique of powergaming zombieblobvampires with ancient gear who bossed people around like they owned the place (they kinda did).
I got myself in a corp and managed to take it over after everyone else left (lel), had a store, couple million bucks and a spot in the corp tower. I quit after building a zeppelin solo. The game is too much of a grind and good gear is in high supply since everyone but the zombie autists leaves once they reach endgame and their apartment is emptied into the local goodwill. Got basically every end-game recipe book in a couple of good rolls.
does Madamoo or HATEmoo still exist?
Those two cut on the grind quite a bit, HATEmoo even let you keep all or most of your XP on rerolls so if you got bored of a build you could do something different without having to spend half your life grinding again.
It doesn't really matter in Hellmoo, veteran players (the aforementioned zombie autists who never leave and own the place) have so many unique/admin-only achievements that they get like 20k xp when they reroll from those alone. Then they get a friend to rush them through the other xp-giving quests/achievements and reach 100k xp in half an hour. Newbs and literally whos gets nothing of the sort but seriously who cares about those.
XP isn't a problem, most of the grind is about grinding skills, and you can't really bypass that.
I don't know if things changed but it was common practice to grind up to the highest grindable skill level before going to a teacher, otherwise you would be wasting xp
