I played the first Splatoon and it was pretty good, don't have a switch to play the second one but once mario odyssey comes out I'm thinking of getting one

Curious about what's actually different between the first and second one aside from a new single player campaign and new waifus? Haven't been following too closely

-Every super has been reworked, all the old ones are gone. A lot of the new ones retain aspects of the old ones though. I think most weapon loadouts have been reworked to compensate for this.
-A few sub weapons have been reworked. Disruptors now leave an AOE field, you can deploy up to 2 ink mines now and they track, seekers were split into curling bombs which slide forward and bounce off walls before exploding and autobombs which are little robots that don't leave an ink trail but walk towards neemies
-2 new confirmed weapon types. The dualies are short range and low damage but fire fast and can do a dodge roll. The brella is sort of like a shotgun but the umbrella part can be deployed like a shield. Also has a shield charge move that temporarily disables use of the shield.
-Salmon Run is a new co-op horde mode that awards rare gear and meal tickets
-Meal tickets are basically just built in exp boosts
-You can spend super snails to choose gear abilities now, don't have to just keep rerolling til you get what you want
-Several new maps, several more planned as there is a planned one year period of free DLC/updates
-Ranked ratings are now split between the three modes, i.e. you have separate individual ranks for each game mode.
-League play where you can part with groups of 2 or 4 and basically compete with other teams to win as many matches as possible during the current rotation.

THat's all the big stuff i can think of off the top of my head. Base gameplay is mostly the same. Chargers can now hold their charge for a few seconds while swimming in ink. Rollers got a new long ranged vertical paint slam they can do midair. The new supers are all pretty fun to use so far and seem to mostly be an improvement over the first game's. There's a few minor uI improvements, you can see if a teammate has their super charged, the map is now an on-screen overlay you get by holding a button down. There's a taiko minigame replacing squid jump and the amiibo games.

If you're eager to play Odyssey I'd try and get a switch now anyway rather than wait. It's going to be a nightmare trying to find one during the holiday season.

The tenta missiles feel much more like a sort of area denial/throw people off thing than a kill weapon. Missiles had pretty bad tracking and I only ever died to them if our team was clumped up enough for there to be like 12~ missiles coming down on us.
The charger was the pressure jet right? It seems mainly good for the xray vision, more of a support deal than anything. Pick off the biggest threat and then try to capitalize on it.

does s2 have a toggle for the gyro controls because my experience with them in the first game was "this is nowhere near as good as my steam controller's gyro" so it made me annoyed and I turned it off

IMO you should learn to use the gyro controls because once you get the hang of them they feel more precise than a stick. I didn't like them in S1 at first but after I got used to them it made using certain weapons, mainly chargers and the burst-fire splattershots a lot easier.

That said you definitely need to fuck with the sensitivity to find a comfortable setting. IIRC I usually had it around -2.5

I know the argument is "it makes you better after you get used to it" and I'm like 99% certain that's true but it was really obnoxious and didn't feel natural at all with the gamepad (to me)

I usually don't put in enough effort into console shooters to give a shit tbh

To me the gyro controls help it feel less like a console shooter and bridge the gap a little more because you kinda approach mouse precision once you get the hang of it (or at least closer to mouse precision than a stick can offer.)
Different strokes and all but definitely don't discount it, it's worth learning especially if you're more used to M+KB shooters
