Absolver is an open world melee game. You name yourself Joseph Joestar, pick a fighting style, then learn more as you explore, letting you make your very own fighting style goodie bag. It uses an online system similar to Destiny, where when you enter a new zone you're randomly placed in a lobby with 2 other people, who you can either work with or beat down (there is a coop only function as well). It's a very simple game that's meant for people who want to just jump in, explore, and fight dudes. Story is said to be in the background as in Dark Souls.

Release date is August 29th on PC and presumably consoles but who gives a fuck. Current price is $26.

I'm cautiously hyped for it. Biggest thing I'm curious about though is how much variety there's gonna be in enemies. I mean dudes with masks will be alright die common enemies but I'm hoping bosses will consist of something more than tougher dudes with masks.

Well it does some neat stuff from what I've read.

- While fighting in the company of your mentor you gain their moveset
- Bosses get stronger and more advanced each time you beat them, with tier 3 being the max
- You can only get a full size cloak by beating the story

I've been playing it today, mostly when the servers were still up. The combat can be very fun. I'm undefeated in PvP matches at rank 11, which is around 50 rounds. I can just SHIT on people who don't understand the game mechanics, but those who do give me a good fucking time trying to outsmart them.

The PvE is the worst part aside from THE FUCKING SERVERS. Often times you're fighting 3 enemies at once and you just kinda button spam them to death. Some of them can actually be a pain in the ass to fight, so you need to team up with random pubbies in the world. Regardless, the fun times I've had with randoms has been good.

>we beat the last mini-boss to unlock the final boss

How /do/ the game mechanics work, anyway? It seemed initially like there might be too many things to keep track of defensively, making extreme aggression the most viable pvp option.

Your block stop everything as long as you have stamina. Being hit lowers your stamina. (there's no grabs, throws, etc). There are guard breaker moves that drain pretty much all stamina on someone blocking.

It's much better to dodge instead of block as then you can counter attack.

it's kinda funny how fighting games deal with the two schools of thought concerning damage evasion
"block because dodging lets the opponent control your movement" versus "dodge because blocking hurts"

It's both though. Blocking doesn't last long at all and dodging can make you screw up the timing and get hit. There's alwo two dodges; the standard one everyone has and the Windfallen one, where you hop, sidestep, and duck in place.

im posting from 2018 to say i bought this game and its kinda dead but its not bad.
