Darkwood: Devs are gods (it's free)

Darkwood is a top down survival horror game. Your goal is to survive each day while working to get out of the hellish woods and discover the truth.

The devs have personally uploaded their game to Piratebay, as to provide a safe version for people who don't have money to spend on it, or just want to try it out. It's also to spite key resellers. Still, it's the entire game. They only want people to buy it if they feel it's worth it.

Here is the official statement
“If you don’t have the money and want to play the game, we have a safe torrent on the Pirate Bay of the latest version of Darkwood (1.0 hotfix 3), completely DRM-free. There’s no catch, no added pirate hats for characters or anything like that. We have just one request: if you like Darkwood and want us to continue making games, consider buying it in the future, maybe on a sale, through Steam, GOG or Humble Store. But please, please, don’t buy it through any key reselling site. By doing that, you’re just feeding the cancer that is leeching off this industry.”

OR

You can download the entire game for free via a torrent from the developers (if you enjoy it please buy it)

Bumping this because holy shit.

The devs have uploaded the entire game to Piratebay to combat key resellers and let people try the game. They only want people to buy it if they feel it's worth their money, but are happy to share what they have made.
When asked again why they made it free for people to try, they said this
As for why we put the game on the PB, it's pretty much explained in the imgur post. If you have the money to buy the game - please do so, we won't be able to make more games if we can't support ourselves. If you don't have the money - you can download a safe torrent, with no risk of malware, keyloggers or anything of the sort, and hopefully you can support us later, when you have the money or when Darkwood is on a sale. But don't buy from key resellers.

I used to pirate games, so I know what it's like to have no money for games, when you're a big fan of them. If you do have the money and still don't buy the game, ever... well, we can't stop you from doing that anyway (Darkwood was already on torrent sites when we posted our torrent), but it's you who will be looking in the mirror.
And, even more
Sorry if some of you feel bad about this. Getting to know our background might shed some more light on why we did this:

As you know, we're from Poland. Growing up in the 90s, our country was going through a capitalistic boom after 50 years of socialism. There was pretty much no way of getting games legally back then. In my town, the local pirate's shop was located exactly next door to the police station. There were no anti-piracy laws back then. My family wasn't poor in any way, but I could actually afford paying for legal games about when I started earning money after high school. And to be honest, I also bought from key resellers (until I realized where the vast majority of keys are coming from).

So guess what, if it wasn't for piracy, there would not be any Darkwood, as we wouldn't be playing games when we were kids, and would pick up other hobbies. I played games for free, and now I'm sharing my game, for free, to people in the same situation as I was.

I know many people will take advantage of it. But we're getting tons of emails from people all around the world, writing that they have no way of paying for games legally and thank us for this move. If this inspires someone in the future to repay this kindness back to the industry, then I think it was worth it.
I repeat, game is free on Piratebay at the devs own wish, and is very well worth trying. Link below this text.

Whats their beef with key resellers?

Google it. The anti-key reseller thing has been a huge thing for a while now.

They get hit with the fines. It might actually be cheaper for them to give the game away.

In short-
Credit card fraud happens
Fraudster buys a shitload of keys for games
Re-sells them to launder it and cash out
Owner of creditcard reverses transactions when they figure it out
And if those keys are deactivated as result, some platforms will blame the dev and make them pay for it

Key resellers are pretty shit, but then re-selling games is a function all online stores should have to be technically compliant with laws in many countries

It took me a month to figure out how to get the music out of the files. I ended up having to talk with shady Russian coders.
