yeah I wasn't implying you were burnt out, just saying that it's a bad idea to build a bunch of large houses that we're never going to be able to fill up

I remember playing Wurm and a guy burned out on Wurm
For like 6 months we maintained his huge house, until people got tired of it and just broke the thing down to farm the flat easily accessible land instead

Less than a week later he returned and he was pissed that his house was broken. And pissed that we build a wall(pvp server at that) and did diplomacy in his absence, since he intended to live with nature and also be pirates preying on everyone else and raiding whatever

Don't be like that guy. Keep your housing and expectations reasonable

Looking at the above post and through the wiki, "muh flat land" seems to be a recurring theme. What's the deal?

I made it to the village but nobody was online (lul EU tiem) will log on later tonight.

you can only build and farm on (relatively) flat land of about 3 dirts steep

If you have a piece of already flat land and a piece of hilly land that'll take you an hour to flatten out what are you gonna prefer.

Eh, since this was a months old village, and the building in question was probably situated near the center, I would've terraced a hill and made the plot into a garden.
But this does come from someone who spent a week flattening dirt in H&H on pure autism. Thank god my neighbour gave me a metal shovel else I'd still be digging...

you need flat land to build/farm and most people have no fucking idea how to wrap their heads around the terraforming system so I tell everyone to be careful about using up flat land because I don't want to be one of three people who actually knows how the terraforming works and become a dirt slave

most people have trouble visualising/understanding the terraforming system, though when you do, it's not hard, just kinda slow

The other issue is the arbitrary stat restriction against working dirt next to a road.

The stat restriction is lile, 20 strength (the default) and 10 digging so its irrelevant

Currently working on putting up my house and personal garden. Should take me most of the day. After that I'll start making plans for either a barn or a church/chapel.

I mean I got terraforming after like half an hour of fucking around with it.

Some players arriving have been confused about what niches aren't covered and which are. If people could list off in the thread what they are dedicated to doing and/or what they're aimed at/want to do, that would help a lot.

Also, on that guy and flat farmland. I can't speak for the village you guys got going now. but back then, the village I mentioned was literally build into a cliff.

The idea is that if everyone tries to do everything then everyone will do everything poorly forever but if people start specializing we'll end up with a few people actually good at a few things and able to start contributing to deed maint and such.

literally just dl'd it and warped into spawn, walked around a bit managed to get outside and had to change my settings

edit: well techinally my game crashed/froze so I lowered some stuff but now when I try reconnecting it just says duplicate auth key / baleeted and I can't join the server. maybe I should give it like 5 minutes or something to log me out of the server or something?

if everyone does blacksmithing(as an example) whos gonna chop down trees, you cant specialize unless you have a diverse set of people skills wise

I think it's easier if everyone just posts what they are doing so far.

We shouldn't force anyone to do anything but sometimes people aren't sure what they want to do and simply want to know what's needed for the settlement. Knowing what every else is already doing helps with that.

not sure what you mean

if you mean "can I dig a tunnel underneath land someone has fucked with", yes

the terraforming system is technically a 2D plane, everything is a value above/below sealevel, so you can't have a tunnel under another tunnel (they just connect and have a near vertical angle or some dumb shit like that), but beyond that yeah you can have tunnels underground

Its a shame we don't have a good or ready means of screenshotting the village from above. Part for the sake of seeing everything laid out but also for districting and planning purposes. Also, it would be something to discuss where we want the road leading in and out of town to go to connect to the highway system so we're not just riding cows off cliffs and so we can start running the big wagon to trade post towns.
