World At War 2: normie edition

On a boring Friday evening I decided to spend $40 on the new Call of Duty. After enjoying 9 hours of it I thought I'd make a normal thread and not a shill thread.

My experience so far

>has 21:9 aspect ratio support but caps your FOV at 75, so 16:9 with 95 is better
>runs smoothly for me but looks mediocre graphically
>loot boxes are earned randomly after a match, through daily/weekly challenges, and through contracts you complete after buying them with the in-game currency
>you earn in-game currency every few hours and by doing some contracts/order
>you can't buy them with money, at least not yet
>loot boxes contain only cosmetic items (soldier skins, emblems for your profile, grips for pistols, and total reskins of guns), as well as % XP boosts for a random duration
>gameplay is fast paced, no wall running or shit like that, only diving forward
>reminds me a lot of World at War
>gun sounds are weak
>voice acting is surprisingly good
>rarely see black German soldiers and shit like that because you can choose your race and gender, unlike in BF1
>no ridiculous multi-perk selection, you only pick 1 trait for each of your loadouts (reload while running, faster reload, etc)
>some uniforms are ridiculous (Soviet uniforms for US in particular)
>social hub area is neat (you can watch a 1v1 arena from above with other people, use a gun range, play old Atari games, challenge people to shootoffs)
>can also watch people open lootboxes and everyone typically watches and talks shit when people get trash unlocks
>war gamemode has objectives that change as you progress IE escort tanks > steal gas to refuel tanks > escort tanks again, stuff like that

I haven't touched zombies yet but I hear it's good.

i don't buy into the "cod is shit" circlejerk (i'm disappointed in you rustled) and i played the beta, mad mixed impressions

-i think the shared main menu thing is super fucking cool but didn't see it in the beta
-game looks fine, not everything needs to be pushing the limits graphically and cod has never really been known for that
-the gun sounds were satisfying in the beta, from what i remember?
-lootboxes not being purchasable with real money is almost certainly a temporary thing but at least they stopped trying to add fucking weapons to them, literally everyone hated that
-i really liked pick 10 and think it was a healthy move for the series, but i also really enjoyed the loadout choices you get in wwii

is the campaign good? it caught my attention when i found out that it doesn't have regenerating health

Crates contain variants of weapons that are only cosmetic. For example, I have a ganger style epic Tommygun variant. I can choose it when I pick the Tommygun but it functions the same. The only difference is kills with it give 10% more xp.

Right but my points still stand. They're fucking nothing. You get a rare loot drop practically every level, which is like 2 matches, plus the random ones that drop after each game. You can do easy daily orders to get them. If they gave actual gameplay advantages like guns or scorestreaks then yeah, but they don't.

Well some of the skin guns are better XP granters than the collection ones

The first machine pistol I got is a 15% boost compared to the collection one only being 10%

That doesn't affect gameplay though

yeah the meme skins giving a bigger boost is lame but it's not really relevant considering how quick you level up in cod

my first box i opened i got a heroic skin which i think is the highest rarity and it was for infanrty (which i play!!) and it was a cool looking medic(!!) so i was impressed that i actually got something i would use

call of duty multiplayer is the last place any human being should look for a realistic interpretation of war

now, if they had tried to create an environment that was serious and respectful of the real war, and then shoehorned lootboxes in afterwards, you could say it's tasteless, but i fail to see how including a game mechanic like lootboxes in what amounts to the main menu of the game is tasteless when the subject matter is already being stretched thin - this is a WWII game with reflex sights

The shotguns feel like hot ass

You basically need to shove the barrel in someone's ass to get a OHKO on the pump and the dubba barrel, and the toggle action is only usable because it shits out so many shells
