Learning to Dorf Fort: Entry level Insanity

Doing a charity marathon thingy next weekend, and had the idea to do an interactive tutorial for Dwarf Fortress for people who wanna learn the game but can't be assed to learn how from the wiki/are intimidated by the game's fuckawful user interface. Want to see if there is any interest/shamelessly shill myself.

Convincing the elves to go to war with you

Alternatively you can just come watch and tell me to kill off dwarves and watch the carnage, I am open to all suggestions

Setting up burrows so your marksdwarfs actually stand next to the fortifications and shoot through them.

I usually just build my fortifications so that there is only a one-tile wide space behind any fortifications and they have nowhere else to stand

The key to that is that there is noting wrong with being distracted. Once your fort is more or less self sufficient you can let it run while you do stuff in other tabs and just check back in for any scary events that caused the game to pause like monsters and stuff.

Same here. I'll play the shit out of one game for a week or two, then burn out and not touch it for almost three months while I play other games. The only constant game in the last couple years that I've played consistently is ss13.

Artificial waterfalls is just making your own waterfalls

The mist that comes from falling water has a positive effect on dwarf moods, and if they walk under the waterfall it will clean dirt and blood off them too!

stream's on intermission right now but it's raised $350 so far. i had the opportunity to play some roblox and duck game on stream, was pretty fun
the cops in roblox jailbreak are worse shitcurity than in ss13 to be honest

Lol in the end didn't even play any dwarf fortress, but we did have a nice rimworld tribe for a while there that I will probably stream some more of today, as well as any other games that we planned on doing but didn't get around to, swat and rainbow six come to mind.

Extra special apologies to anyone who stuck around after duck game and waited for several hours, all I ended up doing was playing modded doom for like an hour and then leaving to go to bed, I was fucking wiped.

I will maybe do a dorf fort tutorial series some time if people are interested

Anyways in the end we raised 350 fucking dollars which is insane, when I first envisioned this I did not think I would make more than like 30 bucks tops, and managed to deliver on all but I think two of my ss13 paid hits.

Special thanks to all the donators, the admins who held my hand as i tried and failed repeatedly to kill people in ss13, the community for taking part in the madness and anyone who played or watched the stream. I'll post the donator list on here when I get on my computer later
