Is Minecraft still a thing?

Post by Atlanta-Ned » #400374

If it is, I have a very nice, mostly vanilla* 1.12.2 server set up at `m.neffy.me`. Right now it's PvE, but I want to create a dedicated PvP arena at some point.

Aside from that, this should be pretty laid back. Don't be a dick.

Server website & map at m.neffy.me
* I'm open to plugin suggestions if anyone has one.

4 or 5 years ago we had a PvP ultrahardcore tournament.

1000x1000 arena, no healing except potions and golden apples, last ones alive win.

It was bretty fun maybe we could stream it

If you CAN'T use FTB, you can always use https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/slimefun . It's been abandoned recently and so still works, though it's quite grindy.

It's a 24 hour map I think, so with the recent server reset it will be generated in like another 18 hours or so?

Anyway, server is alright, the map a bit too small for my liking though. Going in the middle of nowhere to build and the subsequent railway needed was always fun to me.

rip my house I liked the area I was in building next to the world border. haven't checked the new map it's night time and no bed at spawn.

also for the map I mean it just shows a blank white page that never loads

edit: okay woah durkell you're right it's way smaller than anything I've ever played on but maybe thats a good thing. was the server too loaded with it being 2kx2k?

Some (usually tech mods) are indeed painfully annoying but a lot of the others actually add a cool stuff that isn't a pain to get

Examples:
  • Starminer - 1.7.10 only but lets you mess with gravity.
  • Openblocks - a bunch of one-off cool items (cheap as well) like a backpack crane (moves blocks) and luggage (storage that follows you and picks stuff up, also can be picked up), not sure if it's on 1.12 though.
  • Extra/dark utilities - somewhat random items, but with more of a purpose and less cheap than openblocks.
  • Thermal expansion mods - all together, your standard tech mod. Pipes, machines, power, etc. Kind of annoying like I mentioned, but this one's worth talking about anyway.
  • Torcherino - a torch that speeds up time near it. Fairly simple to craft (4 clocks around a torch) but it does need gold.

On the other hand, server resets with progression-y mods are really annoying.

I made an executive decision to reset the map since the previous iteration was:
- Already fuckhuge
- Basically nothing but desert

Unfortunately, the new map is mostly ocean, but I don’t plan to reset it again.

Right now the map is limited to ~800 blocks from spawn. I’ll ramp that up as time goes along though.

i don't know none of this really sounds like stuff i'd want in minecraft to be honest, and the tech stuff always makes me think "why don't i just play factorio"

Have to admit I prefer vanilla half the time to 10000000000 mods that make just wanting to build more of a chore.

Could we just not have the world borders and keep a rule with not traveling out far unless it's for special shit like woodland mansions/strongholds/ect? Pretty much all the viable loot structures are far off out of the border and inching the border more outward bit by bit doesn't help much.

Boosted the worldborder another 2048 blocks to 4096. Go forth and explore*.

* I'd personally prefer to see more activity focused around the city/spawn, but I also like letting things evolve naturally.

Additional note: I drilled a hole all the way to bedrock with dynamite, just south of the spawnpoint. Maybe someone will feel inclined to build something with it.
