ARMA 3 - Better than SQUAD edition

Post by iksyp » #410577

ARMA 3 is a military sandbox developed by Bohemia Interactive, and the latest title in the Operation Flashpoint Series of games.
It has an extremely healthy player count and modding scene, as well as robust level editors that allow people to make essentially any scenario they can think of.

I'd recommend buying the Apex Edition (Includes half of the dlc) during a steam sale, as the game goes on sale semi-frequently.

The game is very good at portraying combined-arms warfare, and has many roles, from your standard infantryman, to tank crew, and even gives you artillery as well as piloting roles.

SOME GAMEMODES:
Zeus: 1-2 people take their role as the zeus, and create a mission in realtime for the rest of the players.
KOTH: PVP Take control of a city with your team and hold it until you win.
Wasteland/Epoch: Remember DayZ?
Altis Life: It's like darkrp but on a fucking huge map and worse

Arma is very CPU intensive and seems to be bipolar on whether or not it wants to work for some people, it works on my machine but it might fuck up on yours.

RECOMMENDATIONS:
  • Play with a Unit. A unit is essentially a closed community of gamers who schedule their time. If you have a unit you want to shill, you can do that below.
  • Install Teamspeak. A lot of units use a mod called Task Force Arrowhead Radio, which allows you to use more realistic radios in game, and it goes through Teamspeak.
  • Play through the VR tutorials, they teach you a lot about the game and it's systems and really do good at giving you a basic idea of how to properly shoot things.

it's rated M for mature guys make sure you're over 18

New thread is fine. Things have changed. Rumors of secret discords and guerilla resistance operations carried out against cyka blyat overlords. Contact your local Wild Hogs representative if you would like to know more.

Been having fun with the wildhogs the past week playing this. Nice to have a small group to play with.

Now if only the germans would stop blowing up vehicles we are about to capture.
So uhh, I'm an admin. Please leave feedback! Oops took me a while to strike that through.

also it's like, divinely ironic that Rock is banned from the server when this is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of his singular ability to make vehicles explode

we could be stuffing him into stolen SUV's and trucks covered in explosives and sending him off to unleash the divine flames of Allah on enemy roadblocks

more than ever this is the time for Rock to shine

Adding yourself to a unit doesn't do anything, I think you have to link the unit's XML for us to get the patch.

In the Antistasi server hardly any of the equipment or uniforms we are using have the "patch slot" on their textures for the emblem to correctly display.

If regular operazoni's aren't going on tonight I can host Liberation and we can run around to test the patches out.

todays arma 3 experience: fly 15km at 100m altitude in a creaky-ass chopper flown by someone who is apparently a real pilot because he mumbles takeoff information to himself, join section

spend 3 hours crawling through compounds getting shot at a lot, then the medic loses all his blood and gets medevac'd to find some more, so we hold up for half an hour, during which time we successfully demolish a house outside our compound and convince the section leader that an insurgent inside must have stepped on an IED.

Then half the section disconnects and the insurgents are getting rowdy so we just run away and then the server crashes.

Meanwhile on our server our goal of liberating the civilian population of Altis from the oppressive CSAT has completely 180'd, our constant theft of their vehicles, destruction of their homes, and sometimes collateral casualties has caused the population's approval of us to drop so low they are planting IED's all over the place and mounting guerilla attacks on our holdings.

Fuck.

We've been playing 1.8.0 Antistasi and the latest updated Altis Liberation.

Our modpack is here:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 1358040570

And we have a discord:
https://discord.gg/t3APdfj

We've gotten large enough we're looking at maybe doing some TvT stuff soon, or at least some random asymettric vs. mode stuff for FUN.

There's also rumors we head back to Tanoa soon for Vietnam PTSD.

the fact that i have survived as many helicopter crashes as i have is fucking astounding to me
i was with my unit and our chinook got hit by AA
so we went down and i managed to jump out and somehow not take any damage
I ended up being the sole survivor and since the zeus had to cut shit to save performance, I managed to get to an area that was supposed to be filled with enemies but wasn't and he panic spawned some because no one else was in that area

At the very least get Apex. It adds THE JUNGLE for enhanced PTSD. It's a great map.

The others depend on how much you want to fly/drive vehicles or whatever.

The marksman DLC is probably the weakest of them all now that we use so many mods for more guns. Paying for some more LMG's and DMR's when you can just download a ton of them is kinda lame. If you really want to get into the fucking meta of Arma3 for like PvP stuff then yes some of the guns in the marksman DLC are the best in the game but it's such a stupid way of thinking.

Go Karts fun. Racing around a Liberation mission in a go kart while everyone tries to shoot you in the face is a good time.

basically you just join up when ops are happening and go from there don't think we've ever really done a training or "first session" kind of thingy. I believe the server is generally always online though so you can just join up select a mission and try out all your bizniz and see if all your mods n shit work

Don't worry about being new

Just go in, grab a gun and pretend you're an army mans
You'll probably not even see the enemy your first two or three tries, but after that you start noticing them and you'll be able to get some kills

Yeah Ops are mostly random whenever people mention wanting to OPS and other people poke out of their holes to join the OPS.

For a little while there was a regular Big Friday Op but I don't know. I've been really busy in VR.

I recently discovered a new addon thats pretty fun, it's called co10 escape and its one of those escape altis gamemodes where you start with horrid gear (pistols) and have to do various objectives to escape the island. It's pretty tense as killing and or alerting troops increases your heat and brings more and heavier units to your positions. So you need to be /somewhat/ stealthy.

it's up to10 players as the name implies but theres difficulty settings for smaller groups. if anyone ever wants to try it out with me hmu

Bumping this just so folks know the Wild Hogs are still active but we're in need of some new blood.
Current Op days are 8pm GMT Tuesday and Friday, although we're talking about changing one of those to Sunday.

We've recently changed to a new US based server, which runs a lot better than the server we'd been using (enemies no longer take a half mag before keeling over)

Server info and mod list are can be found in our Discord

Don't worry if you've never played arma online before, we're only semi-serious.

Arma 3 is cheap as chips in the Steam Summer Sale
Most of the DLC is optional as we've got a crap ton of vehicles and weapons in mods.
I'd still recommend Tanks DLC however, we do occasionally use them.
