My Falcon is finally fixed... damn directories.
Is this dead, or do any of y'all have the spirit to play these days? The 1946 server I've been playing on for the last year seems to be very slowly shrinking.

Alright, I have one other question... How does one adjust the resolution of the menu?
The menu resolution is 1360x768 but my monitor's optimal resolution is 1440x900, so that's what I run the game in. Is there any way for me to:
  • get the menu to run windowed rather than full screen?
  • have Windows automatically switch resolution when the menu opens?
  • change menu resolution to 1440x900?

It seems to have magically fixed itself. The menu now works in 1440x900... for some reason or another.

Edit: Neeeeever mind. Resolutions different again.

So was flyin' an interdiction mission, just took off, and looked off of my right side for my wingman and see this
Image
It's on my left wing as well, so I go to chase view and see this
Image
I'm thinking, "Oooookay, I'll just keep flying the mission." I got to the target, no bugs or anything in flight, but all the weird visuals still there. I go into flyby view and see that my F-16's wings are now half cardboard.

Finally, a little later, I realized what I was flying.

exhibit A: why it's a good idea to restart between missions

yes i've flown hangars, runway segments, ammo trucks and fucked up models of static mk84s.

surprisingly they maneuvered as well as the f-16 though.

to be fair even the eagle became a bomb truck after awhile just because america never had to deal with the cold war air war over germany that it was building all these fighters for, anyway.

though the >muh eagle was strongly against boyd i'm sure

anyway falcon still very acceptable as a dogfighter, after all that's what it was made for.

as a plane it's extremely successful, produced and exported in huge numbers, even these days older block40s are still available as a reserve in huge numbers and would probably still be pretty effective in a modern war against whoever.

At least with the Eagle they made a separate variant to carry bombs, so the air superiority blocks didn't have to deal with bomb pylons, A2G avionics, and whatever else they tacked on.

The original YF-16 had longer range than the F-15, superior maneuverability and a better T/W ratio. Its disadvantages were that it could not reach mach 2.5 due to its fixed inlets, and it didn't have quite as big of a radar.

If that is happening you've already fucked up.

Missiles have really high speeds in straight lines. They're not very good at maneuvering though, the only have these tiny little stabilizers on them to direct air and provide lift. You can't outrun a missile but you can out-turn one. They counter this by having a predicative ability, they don't aim for where you are, they look at where you're going based on your radar telemetry and they try to cut you off.

Knowing is really all of the battle, then. Knowing you've been locked up, knowing you've been fired on, knowing the direction the missile is coming from. If you have all this information you can easily turn in a way a missile wont be able to change its course to meet.

...which is why it's common to fire one missile, and then a second one before the first has even been avoided. You dodge the first bullet to be caught unaware by the second. Or you just can't get out of the way of both even if you do know.

...or you be a sneaky bastard with your FLIR system and long-range infrared seekers that never show up on Radar and need to be visually identified (or you have such cutting edge radar that it can detect something as small as a missile in flight and alert you to its presence).

...or you just get into the knife fight and use close-range infrared missiles that go up the other guy's ass before he can do jackshit about it.

don't face su-27 in falcon much, you fight china not russia

they effectively act like upgraded su-27 though; has aa10c and aa12

not fun to run into if you aren't ready for it
